Wasting Time

Been in this role on a lateral team as an Associate. The team has good deal flow but I haven't touched any deals because the MD thinks that I will leave after a year and they won't pour any resources until they see commitment. I've said many times that I'm in for the long so I don't know what gives. Just sitting around everyday doing random admin tasks. Have any of you guys experienced this? Btw, this is at a top BB in NYC. I don't know if I should start looking around or stick it out. There's no performance issues.

Hey Associate 1 in IB - Cov, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I am sad to say, but this thread is lonely, so thought I'd post in here to try and help out. Some potential topics that might help:

You're welcome.

I should probably ask for more detail before I comment, but this sounds like you’re on the way out. What do you mean by there are no performance issues? There is weird, there is something they see/feel/believe.

Start looking. Cut back on your expenses. Good luck.

Not OP.

I have no idea what you just said in that reply.

I’m wondering if this is real. If you are an associate, you’ve been around long enough to know that you don’t have to show commitment to a lateral group at a BB, there’s no gatekeeping, and the good people are staffed and overbooked. Did this group want you or were you pushed out of other group? You can’t be as naïve as you’re coming off here. And you seem not to be getting what posters are telling you.

I’m sure there’s more to the story and some context that would be helpful.

No deal staffing in an active group is always fishy.

I've only ever seen this if people are being lined up to get exited.

Otherwise there is no reason to not utilize good associates if you are busy on deal execution as a group.
