After a pretty long gap in work experience looking to possibly start my own thing. Any ideas or areas that people have experience or familiarity with. Don't know much about tech even though that would probably be a great place to pick up some skills. I have some capital so getting by for the time being or investing in something wouldn't be an issue.

If you want to venture into tech, learn the basics. Well that holds true of any industry actually. Maybe you don’t know how to design a full blown event driven microservice architecture that’s highly available in multiple regions, but knowing how to build a simple blog page would do wonders. Even if you’re angel investing, it helps you weed out some of the bs.
I’d say the same for restaurants- understand the basics of logistics/ ordering food so it doesn’t expire/ etc. Real estate you should understand how to do a very basic market analysis. Whatever it is that you do, learn first and then invest.

Yeah my friend is an executive coach. She recommends this degree from Penn: Masters in Applied Positive Psychology. It’s always good to have an Ivy degree by your name in executive coaching.

"tech" is such a broad term its essentially meaningless btw. I have an idea for "tech" that buy side firms can use, as it would solve a problem ive seen at my last 2/3 shops. and a major issue at that. there are external solutions for this issue but they are pricey and there are conflicts of interest. I also worked closely with developers who built software for asset management houses in one of my last jobs, we bought the software and used it and agreed to test it for a reduced yearly fee. all I would need to do is hire some developer dweeb to build something similar to solve the problem I'm talking about.
This seems like a great way to build up consistent fee revenues if you can scale
