As a bit of a tech nerd, aim for certain specs rather than a specific line. Monitors aren’t like laptops.

First off is size. 24” is the bare minimum (I run dual 27”). The next quality I would look at is refresh rate. My eyes are much less tired at the end of the day when using 144hz compared to 60hz.

In my opinion, the remaining spec options such as panel technology (IPS, OLED, TN), resolution (1080p, 1440p, 4k), and response rate (10 ms+, <5 ms, 1 ms) are all up to preference and much less important for a banker who doesn’t need extreme color accuracy or contrast ratios. Basically, these are nice to haves — focus on the size and refresh rate since those are the most important factors when determining your eye's comfort. Just don’t get sucked into gimmicks and small details such if the display is curved or what HDR certification it has.

Spice up your setup with a monitor arm or two for dual setups and you should be all set.

Oh also don't cheap out in the name of value here. There's another thread that summarizes it better, but some aspects of remote work are likely to stay with us going forward. Your comfort is important and not an area to skimp on.

Quick question since it seems like you know your shit. Since I'm beaming up my laptop to my monitor via HDMI, I've been told that getting a 60hz refresh rate vs 144hz is no different since apparently when you connect via HDMI it's all 60hz? Is this true or cap? Thanks

Depends but I’d say mostly cap. Tbh, sounds like a boomer said what you’re quoting.

Older laptops will have older HDMI ports that are less powerful and can’t transfer enough data for 144hz. Newer laptops will have newer HDMI that can handle it. Simple as that.

IMO, very good. Sounds like you found your way to the gaming brands which do high-performance stuff. As long as the specs are right for you, I couldn't tell you that it's bad unless you're overpaying so long as you're happy! Hope I've been helpful.

do you mind posting posting links to the specific monitors/docking station you are running?

Laptop (I'm at a bank that didn't give out laptops over COVID sigh... at least exits are good): Dell XPS 15 9500 (6-core multithreaded 10th gen i7, 16 GB ram, 500 GB SSD, 1650 Ti), this was last year's model -- newest would be 9510.

Laptop hooked up to the power brick and a USB hub from Amazon. USB hub is completely random -- it just fit my needs with 4 USB-A and 3 HDMI. Originally wanted only 1 wire going into the laptop, but found out that the XPS doesn't support the power pass through that's on the USB hub so rip (oh well, 2 wires is still a very clean and easy to use setup).

USB hub has bluetooth mouse, bluetooth + solar keyboard (never have to charge and mechanical switches are a blast), USB camera, and two Dell monitors connected (27", 144 hz + 1 ms response rate. The 144 hz and 1 ms was important to me because I game the very little that I still can. Definitely go for something less wallet-breaking. Just go to dell's website -> monitors -> filter by anything 24"+, full HD+, and choose something more economical).

Monitors are held up by a dual monitor stand from Amazon -- real nice upgrade, makes it look like I have a floating setup and frees up desk space. Standing desk holds it all together.

Yeah that's my entire setup lol.

I recently bought two Dell Ultrasharp 24 inches for wfh setup. Absolutely love and recommend them. Basically zero bezel and the monitors themselves move to every angle and height, so no need for a monitor arm. Only thing to mention is that the resolution isn't great, but that shouldn't be an issue for shit like excel powerpoint and word
