Top NYC Nightlife/Restaurants/Etc
Off topic to usual posts, but there hasn't been a forum about best clubs/restaurants/lounges/bars in NYC, recently at least. Going to be there for a week or so. Lived in NYC for 2 months in summer of 08 (kiss n fly, pink elephant, etc), but obviously shit changes.
Post away on your favorite restaurants and what you know of hottest clubs.
Clubs: 1Oak, Juliet, Greenhouse
Tons of restaurants/bars, Sushi Samba is fun.
The bar at Keens Steakhouse
1Oak sounds expensive and like a pain in the ass to get in.
bumpbump. i want more clubs. from LA/hollywood guy
Heard Cain is the best for models and bottles and cognac cocktails specially made by the owner.
Oh, why does this sound so familiar?
You've never stepped foot in Cain or gone to any posh NYC club right? Cains been closed for a couple months.
China Town. Nice and CHEAP! Also tons of cheap little bars around little Italy right next to the c-town in Manhattan.
I'm still a student. So upscale for me would be the sushi bar right next to NYU called Blue Ribbon Sushi and they dont close until 2am.
Im sure your going to get alot of people here trying to show off their knowledge of popular and "impressive" ( and majorly expensive ) places to eat and drink. But for me, popular and impressive are the places that dont require someone like myself to spend alot.
I am a little biased on asian food, but if you like Korean, then go 1 block east from Penn station, there are tons of Korean restaurants there and they are all good. And What I also like is the fact that pink berry is next to all of them so you can grab yourself a 0% fat treat right after you eat. Theres also a couple karaoke bars as well.
You will score significantly more by heading to a bar than going to any of these clubs mentioned. Girls go there to drink your $X00 bottle for free and then bailing after the ego boost. Head to LES, NYU-area, some places on UWS for bars.
Of course, if the 1oak etc is your scene go for it.
Did you ever think that maybe those girls drink your bottles and choose not to put out because you're an ugly fuck with a 2-inch weiner and have no game?? News flash: you won't score at a bar either.
Ha. Overreaction much. Someone dropped a couple of hundo for a bottle and went home to jerk it late night huh? I see plenty of those in your future.
When I need advice on what sort of lotions to buy to keep my skin feeling baby smooth, I will come to you for advice.
All of the nicest clubs get old after you go a few times anyways. It's always the same type of people. If I were you I'd check out the ones I listed (1Oak, Juliet, Greenhouse) just to see what it's like. There also some nice roof top parties... also check out Via Dei Mille (brunch/party) and Stir (bar) both are fun (if you go with friends).
Go Native, you must be the noob here if you didn't get the joke:
Sadly, A.J. went home alone to his shitty 200 sq ft studio in Queens, where he treated himself to some rough masturbation and then cried himself to sleep.
Thanks for the link. I've been looking for this ever since LX.TV took it off YouTube. Know where I can find Richie "Bottles"? That one was pure gold.
I almost threw up in my mouth when I watched that video.
Brother, I'd pay MONEY to whoever could give me the Richie Bottles video.
Those guys were a douche supernova.
"Here's to living single, seeing double, threesomes, foreplay, five of a kind, six packs, seven nights a week..."
Pure gold.
haha im always down for a bar but my friends a splurger, so we gotta get bottles. ill try one of those places lady eva, thanks. which is most exclusive?

Clubs/Lounges in NYC (Originally Posted: 03/07/2012)
First time in NY, recommend me some nice places to check out. :hi:
Thanks.
Best Clubs (not in particular order):
Avenue (Mondays) 1OAK (Wednesday) Lavo (Thursdays) Dream Hotel -PHD Lebain The Darby
Feel free to include any ones I forgot about
I'm also partial to Provocateur and Boom Boom (top of the Standard) which are almost never packed...
The Darby party on Sunday nights is great too
If you like more low-key stuff, "mixology" (I hate that term) bars like PDT, Death & Co., Little Branch, Apotheke, Employees Only, and the Raine's Law Room are all pretty good. Kind of expensive, but they have good drinks.
Riff Raff's is the hottest place. It's also very hard to get into (definitely need a reservation). I've seen super hot girls get turned away. Max occupancy is like 75, so its nice and intimate.
Clubs/Lounges:
Marquee Greenhouse Kiss & Fly Juliet Aspen Social Club Slate Hudson Terrace 230-Fifth Skyroom
Kiss and Fly, La Caverna, Lit are a few of my faves. 1oak if u wanna smash NYU girls...actually the same for Lit
Don't forget the Rennaisance Lounge on Times Square.
I second top of the standard. PE firm I worked for had an awesome party there.
Hiro/Circle if you have certain...tastes lol
What do you think of circle? I've yet to go but heard some interesting things..
When it gets warmer, 230-Fifth is a lot of fun.
Le Bain. You probably have not been to a place like that before...
Marquee is still around?
I think it's fair to point out to OP that you can't get into these places unless you buy bottle service or are rolling with bitches. And most of them have long lines as well.
Seriously how many of you go to these places regularly? As a banking analyst you would go broke pretty fast if this was your usual week.
Kiss and Fly? I visited NYC a few months ago and they had the worst DJ I've ever heard. Incessant siren sound going off every 10 minutes at a deafening volume.
Well the problem w the nice places is that you can't just go there and expect to get in... honestly you need to either a) know somebody at the door, b) get bottle service and/or c) roll with a pack of hot girls....
but you have to pay to play right? the expectation in nightlife is that people in finance will bankroll some nights for some of these guys in NYC - figure out who you need to know in NY nightlife (promoter/model/party goer) ASAP and let that person vouch for you at every spot.
im so glad i dont deal with all of this NYC club / lounge bullshit anymore
Same here...they can be a lot of fun, but it was always more of a pain in the ass than it was worth.
http://www.snakeholelounge.com/
Ballers only, please.
Thanks guys, will check some of them out, i hope the weather is not too cold at the end of the month to enjoy rooftop lounges.
I hear Cain Luxe is solid.
I'm not a huge "clubber," but I've been in New York long enough to know the spots. Generally Meat Packing District has the highest concentration of "happening" clubs (Tenjune, RDV, Gunbar, Cielo, etc) on any given day of the week. One note of caution - while alot of fun, those clubs can also be more of a hassle to get into with long lines and expensive cover charge, not to mention the expensive drinks once you get in. Generally, I'd advise you going with a "club promoter" who can help provide a smoother experience by getting you past lines quickly and provide deals on drinks (sometimes even free!). I've used this group nycwhiterabbit.com and found their events to be reasonable, although there are lots of other groups out there who can also help your experience.

And that's a bad thing ha
j-tree. now that takes me back. ha ha.
anyway, i definitely second Angel's Share and nominate:
Employee's Only Milk & Honey Pegu Club Pravda
you want a real drink you have a seat at one of these places. sublime.
It's just a small neighborhood bar, but I love chilling with close friends at the West Side Brewing Company

What's your favorite restaurant/place to eat in New York City? (Originally Posted: 03/20/2011)
Where do you guys enjoy eating during your lunch break or when you go out for dinner?
This could serve as a good resource for others who will be interning in NYC or people who will be full time.
Please rate the expensiveness and the area in which it is located!
I will be eating chipotle everyday, twice a day.
Then make sure to get chipotlaway.
Did this while interning at Merrill Lynch. Don't do it dude....don't do it.
I know when i become an analyst I will be eating ramen noodles all the time.
Cheeeeeeeeepppppppppppppp
Making 70k and eating ramen noodles....sad
come on dude. that works in college when you have no income. but if youve got a 70k base as an analyst, ya gotta move up, at least marginally, from the ramen!
lol well I will be paying rent/transportation/laundry/computer and other electonics..
plus taxes will kill me. And finally the thing to dent my pocket the most.....girlfriend expense.
I think you can afford to eat well with a $70K base, 10k sign on and 60K end of year bonus. Not to mention the $25 meal allowance they give you.
Dorsia
YES!!!
During the summer I barely paid for food at all b/c SeamlessWeb is the TITS
$25-$50 per meal is way too much. I could get a shitload of food for dinner and still have enough for lunch tomorrow if I didn't feel like going out to grab something. If you're looking to say in shape--as a few people above have mentioned--Energy Kitchen is great and all over the place in Manhattan. The city I live in right now is fairly diverse in terms of ethnic cuisine but NYC blows it absolutely out of the water. Can't wait to go back this summer just for the food...
Is $25-50 typical? the reason why i have to do freaking chipotle is b/c i'm doing this slowcarb thing and the only thing i can have is either mexican food or omelettes or shit like that. if it's 25-50 i can at least upgrade to a slab of meat or something.
$50 is probably on the high end most places do $20 or $25 but it can vary depending on weekday/weekend
and even $20 goes a long way as long as you're not buying steak every night. If I ate Chipotle every day I would shit my brains out
Can you explain how Chipotle and omelettes are "slow carbs?" Brown rice instead of White rice, Wheat bread instead of white bread.........that is a "slow carb" thing. Eggs are not carbs and most things you put in omelettes are not slow carbs.
The problem with brown rice and wheat bread is that usually it's just bleached white carbs re-made brown. This process involves HFCS, which is definitely a negative for this diet. Also, the original bleaching process is bad as fuck for your body.
Babbo
Great Rec. Been there 4 times. Most amazing pasta I have had in my life, but impossible to get a reservation. If you want one, call at 10am exactly 1 month beforehand and expect to sit on hold and maybe have to eat at 10pm.
The halal cart on the corner of 53rd and 6th after 7 PM.
Well if you got $25 allowance for dinner and you can choose from over 300 places...you gonna say fuck getting in shape for a few months. I tried every sushi possible during my internship! After pigging out for a while you do need to find the healthy places and order that salad once in a while.
Second captoed... +1 sb
Second captoed... +1 sb
We normally get $25 during the week and $50 on the weekends. More if you use peoples money who go home early... Rao's for great italian dinner!
While on the clock at work, I go with PAX. Good food at a reasonable price.
Off the clock, it really is a hard call to make. So may good places.
+1 for Babbo
Aldea is amazing though.....
PUMP if you work in FiDi.
58th and 9th halal cart after 7.
Taim Mobile as it moves through the city spitting delicious falafel everywhere.
THE PLACE in west village (good for a date all local organi blabla)
Kefi on upper west side.
for lunch stuff, tinas/sophies for cuban food
centro vinoteca in west village is good
9th ave in upper hells kitchen area is great for mexican/indian/thai restaurants among others
i can keep going nonstop if you want suggestions.
Whats this I hear about a $25 allowance?
I prefer to eat at the Y in every city.
brick lane
Any Korean BBQ place on W 34th
If not into Asian cuisine, Peter Leugers Steakhouse in Brooklyn
seamless is incredible...they even throw discounts at you every so often...very reliable
I'm not sure if this really counts as a restaurant but Patsy's pizza is the best pizza I've ever gotten in my life. They were even cool with me being so drunk that I knocked over the first table they got us. Although, the servings weren't as big as I would have liked. The first pie we got was pepperoni and onion, but that was not enough for 2 people, so we had to get a meatball and onion pie next. The total bill was $50.00 something, which I thought was a little high for pizza for two, but then again I'm not used to NYC prices.
I've heard people rave about Grimaldi's Pizza but the line is always long and it looks pretty touristy
Go to Grimaldi's in Hoboken, same pizza as the one in Brooklyn without the line around the block,
In Manhattan, Totonnos pizza is the greatest, Patsy's is good as well. Di Fara pizza in Brooklyn blows everything else out of the water.
Anyone know a good pizza place that delivers past 2:00AM?
For London
-Brick Lane -Spittelfields ( you have anything and everythign there from Carribean, to Falafel which is unreal, salads, sandy's and a lot more) - Also a lot of quality resturants if your taking out clients, gaucho for example, Picolino's is alright - Then you have your standard Miki D's, BK's as well - I like to go to M&S once in a while quality food, good price and fast
GAUCHO! Definitely one of the best Argentinean steak I've ever had...
SeamlessWeb
Chip Shop, saw it on some Food Network program and my friend just went out to NYC, tried it out, and said it was amazing.
Pretty much they're crossing the pond with fish and chips, but they also have deep-fried-just-about-anything. Deep fried candy bars, cheesecake, chocolate cake, etc.
Yea, I'm a fat kid at heart... and more and more on the outside, too bahaha
Becco's on restaurant row. best fried calamari I've ever had
For London:
Supermarket: Waitrose and M&S are the only good options
Restaurants: Icco (full pizza for 5 GBP, and its good!), Veeraswamy Ken Lo's Memories of China, Automat for good simple American food, Gaucho, Zuma (way better than nobu)
Nobu on berkeley street is a piece of shit. highly disappointing
You can use your meal allowance on grocery store purchases, right? Whole foods, etc?
burger joint or goodburger for a lunch break midtown. I like burgers.
Fav places in NYC:
One of my personal favorite restaurants is Japanese ramen place called Ippudo. Around $15 but the wait is always a bitch. But worth it in my opinion.
Handsdown best cheap falafel place in NYC is Cheaps. Yeah, sounds unappealing but it's the best $2 ever spent and they make the falafel fresh.
This is a bit far, but a place called Mapo Galbi in Flushings is TO DIE FOR. Best fucking delicious korean BBQ EVER. In my entire life. Just thinking about it right now makes me salivate. A bit pricey but comes with a lot of food and worth it.
Rayuela, Freemans, Peels, 11 Mad park, Public, ABC KItchen, Kenmare, La Esquina, Stanton Social, Corner Bistro, JG Melon's, Fatty Cue, Traif, Fette Sau, Schiller's liquor bar, Peasant...
I could go on forever.
PJ Clarke's. Great all around food, the bartender will know what you drink after 2-3 visits, and the place has a great, authentic feel to it. If you work in Midtown it is a really easy place to get dinner/drinks after work.
Cipriani. Obviously.
PJ Clarke's and JG Melon's were my favorite two restaurants while I was up there. JG Melon's had a dollar beer night if I remember correctly too which was pretty nice.
there is a place on 38th and 2nd, called "The Bravest", its a local firefighter bar in Murray Hill, $2.50 budlight bottles at all times, good, and pretty inexpensive bar food. The bartenders there are nice guys and girls, when I interned at barcap last summer I went probably twice a week. Definitely not a spot where you will feel like king of the world, but a great spot if your are looking to crack a few beers, get a burger, watch some tv and not spend 50 dollars while doing it.
hi london people: make your own eurotrash where to eat thread KTHX
and i thought this was where to dine not where to order with ur 25 dollar seamlessweb allowance. justinos pizzeria on hells kitchen is dope but i second tot's and patsys as good too
ippudo is hella dope. double pork belly.
PJ Clarke's has the best burger in the world, as far as I'm concerned. Goodburger is good for burgers as well and there are a few in the city.
That is a bold statement. Clarke's is a chain so I think that automatically eliminates it from "best". Corner bistro & Melon's both have great "cheap" burgers. The Blind Pig and Minetta Tavern both have great "high-end" burgers. I really like Zaitzeff, Dumont Burger, and Burger Joint (in Le Meridien, hidden). 5 Napkin Burger is popular amongst my peers; haven't been there yet though.
5 napkin is over rated. heard minetta is godlike. RARE, le parker, goodburger all good -- popburger delish as well in burger land. shake shack too of course if you want greaseburger
The REburger at REBAR in Dumbo is actually prolly one of the best burgers ive had in the city and its 8 bucks for lunch with unlimited soda and a side -- i get the mango fennel slaw.
get it correctly done at medium rare and it should be a nice black crust and pure pink inside
pj clarkes ehh -- dont know if id lay that claim. they have good clams casino though, i live near the columbus circle/lincoln square one
harry's for brunch
korean spots around 32nd
I usually hit up your mom's for lunch.
If you ever venture into Williamsburg, Pies n' Thighs all the way. Jesus Christ.

I would recomend Joshua Tree or any of the other "fine" Murray Hill establishments...
Fuck socializing with other finance dudes, after work I want to socialize with some hot tail. It's all about the meatpacking district.

You can do that at just about any bar... you just have to talk to them. and it will be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Thanks Skinnayyy... That wasn't exactly helpful
Libation in LES. Rivington and Ludlow. Call them. Good people run the place. Crowd is a little young for me but I know nothing about you so it may work fine.
What is the age group?
Sent you a PM

Meatpacking is never cheap.
Hogs and Heifers
Bar 675 in meatpacking
Brass Monkey?
Thanks guys.
I second brass monkey if you still want to be in meat packing but not actually blow cash on a bottle.
Greenhouse blows, btw. I went there for the vodka open bar with Overtime. Was tiny and felt like I was in some guys retrofitted garage.
if u r into azns go to Circle - they r extremely racist tho

If you're there with a significant other the bar at the Mandarin at the Columbus Center overlooking Central Park is awesome. It's awesomely expensive also, but worth a drink if you can grab a window table.
I typically find myself stuck at the TGI Fridays bar at Penn Station though. Dump. And still expensive.
Oooo, just googled the Mandarin, bookmarked.
Guessing that's not a reco for TGI? :)
I think you can make a reservation there, which I'd recommend. Ask for a window table at the lobby bar. But be prepared: I'm pretty sure a martini is $20-25.
I'm on Amtrak all the time to NYC and Penn Station may be the biggest dump of a train station in this country. It's a dungeon in a crappy part of town. And the only sit down restaurant/bar is an even dumpier Fridays where a beer is $8.
Do you live on LI? If they ever bring the LIRR over to Grand Central it would make for a much more pleasant waiting experience, with the Campbell apartment, oyster bar etc The old Penn Station was just as magnificent as Grand Central, too bad the city planners didn't know any better back then, tore it down and replaced with the current depressing incarnation. We have to thank Donald Trump for helping save and revitalize the Grand Central, back then when he was still a player in NYC Real Estate.
Will do, I think the Mandarin will be awesome.
Sounds like a shitty deal, fried food and overpriced beer, in a dump no less.

I was seriously in a bar at mid-town last night and every one of the girl that appealed to me was either an finance intern, or working in Asset Mgmt or M&A.
Pretty sure if you're in banking its a good idea to steer clear of any girls in Finance. In fact its probably a good idea for everyone.
I've only stuck to the typical: Dorrian's, Joshua's Tree, Turtle Bay and Stone Street because I work right next to there. Any other recommendations?
Looking for age range 23/24/25 is the best not older and not under-age interns.
To earn extra money during school, I used to bartend at some MM Bars in Manhattan (think Stumble Inn, Brass Monkey, Gin Mill). When I graduated, the exit ops to the BB Bars weren't as good as I had hoped, so I ended up at my current job.
If you want to meet girls who aren't in finance or aren't interns, take off your suit, get your friends, and go to the Upper East Side or the village, or anywhere far, far away from your office.
Yeah just go by NYU. The whole area is crawling with 20-somethings and the bars are always filled to the brim. I mentioned this on another post about bars but all of these bars are always fun and have good specials. I don't work for them but do enjoy visiting. If that doesn't work, you can always go to bars up and down 3rd ave as there are quite a few between around 20th st and st marks. Have fun.
Also avoid places near penn and grand central since the metro and lirr ship the bridge and tunnel crowd in, in BULK on the weekends- most of whom aren't willing (or simply don't know how to) venture very far from where they came in
Edit: I also just remembered this article I came across a couple weeks ago which discussed how there is a trend now-a-days of chicks commuting out of the city to the burbs on the weekends to get laid, lol. It's prob bullshit but semi-relevant nonetheless, so yea.... here. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/you_go_girl_out_to_burbs_f…

To my fellow monkeys in NYC,
I will be visiting your grand city from Toronto with a couple buddy's on the weekend of Nov 16 - 18.
I was hoping to get some insight on the clubbing scene. What are the best clubs and/or fun areas to visit for a good time. Cougar bars are also a welcomed option.
Also best Diners/Drive Ins/Dives ?
I'll be staying around the Time's Square area but willing to travel around.
Clubbing is for douchebags
Meatpacking, Some Soho, and LES are the main spots. If you plan on clubbing in the Times Square area, you will be sorely disappointed.
If you want to get in to an exclusive club and think "you're the man" go to 1OAK.
Also, because this is a question that has been answered a million times by everyone on the internet...
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=best+clubs+nyc
Went to Lavo on Thursday night, pretty good. Went for my 21st though, so pretty young crowd. Hard to get in if you're not on the guest list
Copacabana seems right up your alley.
If you want to stay in Hell's Kitchen for whatever reason, Pacha is the only actual club experience there. Also, PH-D in the Dream is a pretty clubby roof lounge, and I find visitors to NYC tend to have a better time there than the big clubs, which tend to be more trouble than they are worth these days.
Pacha is horrible and usually full of underage kids rolling their faces off. They do have a lot of big name acts though.
What kind of music/scene are you into?
