How is bank recruiting at Barnard College?

A high schooler I know is considering college choices. One school she is considering is Barnard College. How is bank recruiting at Barnard? Do they participate in Columbia recruiting? How is that school represented on the Street?

She also wants to have the option of going to med school. Baruch does not offer premed courses. Between Barnard and Wellesley, which one is better for finance recruiting?

As a Columbia alum, Barnard isn't bad for recruiting, I know a few girls who went to the BBs. Not as great as the school across Broadway, but still solid. If you want to throw in an option for Pre-Med, pick Barnard.

Don't worry. The high schooler I was talking about has no interest whatsoever in greek life.

One more question. How is Bryn Mawr when it comes to finance recruiting? How would you rank Barnard, Wellesley, and Bryn Mawr, as far as finance recruiting is concerned?

from what i hear wellesley is one of the most respected liberal arts schools, period. people put it up with swarthmore, middlebury and pomona so i'm sure you'll have great options coming out of there. and it does have a wow factor

The girl is a close relative of mine. She would like to be in NYC for family reasons. Barnard is high on her list. Do they get the chance to do school year finance (bank, hf) internships in the city?

Yes. Many Barnard as well as Columbia students have finance related internships/jobs during the school year which is one of the perks of being in NYC. Also as someone mentioned earlier Barnard and Columbia have separate career offices and OCR. Although Columbia College/SEAS (Engineering School) get more recruiting options, there are still plenty of good opportunities at Barnard. Many times companies will post OCR schedules on both career services sites. Also for Barnard there tends to be less competition for finance interviews than at Columbia which I guess can be a perk.

ambition56but barnard girls usually just put columbia as their school

Yeah as "Barnard College, Columbia University." Can't avoid getting asked your college by putting Columbia in your resume.

Target here as well (HYP) and I would do Barnard over Wellesley. my sister is thinking about the same, and she's leaning overwhelmingly toward the former. In Barnard, you have access to Columbia's alumni database and career services -- which is >>> Wellesley's. but hey, if you like the environment at Wellesley better, go for it

I know a lot of girls that went to Wellesley. The school is highly respected and is well known even outside of new england. I don't know much about Barnard so I can't do much of a comparison, but Wellesley girls are known to be extremely bright so I'd be hard pressed to imagine that Barnard would be much better, if at all.

Also, this may be something else to consider, but Columbia and Barnard have a joint math department. If she intends to major in math/econ/the sciences(maybe), she can quite possibly get by taking all her classes at Columbia proper.

Barnard doesn't have access to Columbia College OCR. But, it's still well-respected and is in NYC. You can definitely get what you want at Barnard if you work hard enough for it.
