Tried the search function, but couldn't find anything.

I am a senior at a non-target. I wasn't able to get into banking. So I am considering alternatives to make some cash (high risk/high reward). Can any monkeys chime i on this? Crips vs. Blood? Pay/culture/exit opps/hours? How much are triple OGs expected to make and what is the progression like? Both are located in Compton, Los Angeles.

Prestige ranking: Bloods vs Crips

Truly timeless questions. Possibly more so than " Banking or Consulting?" This debate is just as fiery. Who has the better deal makers? Who gets the better comp? Who lives in the better part of town? Both are very prestigious in their own right and are considered " Bulge Bracket Gangs" along with MS-13 etc... It's really Morgan Stanley vs Goldman Sachs.

Crips

Definitely a more unified faction than the bloods. Their headquarters are in Los Angeles. They generate a majority of their fees by

  • drug dealing
  • theft
  • extortion
  • murder

Their color is blue which can represent a strong desire to motivate others to accomplish their goals. They are about 35,000 members strong. They have about 11 rivals and many more allies. The Crips are the larger organization and seem to be

Notable Crip Alumni

  • Snoop Dog
  • Coolio
  • School Boy Q
  • Maxo Kream

Bloods

The bloods are a weaker organization numbers wise. Current members are estimated to be between 20 and 25 thousand. However, this does make the bloods seem a bit more exclusive. They garner fees in the same manner as the crips

  • drug dealing
  • theft
  • extortion
  • murder

Notable Blood Alumni

  • Lil Wayne
  • Bird Man
  • RZA
  • B-Real

Their primary color is red which is the color of energy, passion, and stimulation. The bloods have about 12 rival gangs and some allies. So again, the bloods are more exclusive and have more competition in their industry but they are clearly still fighting for market share.

Investment Banking Interview Course

Definitely Crips. They've got the best deal-flow, best junior-gangster exposure to said deal-flow, and the best perks. A standard Glock .45 is issued at the time you start, but getting that FT offer depends on how good your quant skills are (their interviews are brutal). If you fail the interview, you get shot with the aforementioned Glock .45. Hours are good overall, maybe 40 a week on the job, but there's no overtime despite being located in CA.

Overall a solid opportunity, definitely one to consider in this tough job market.

Woah, hold on. Lil Wayne > Snoop Dog. Are we really having this discussion? Who doesn't want A Milli?

No, but seriously, Bloodz is smaller. You'll have more opportunities for advancement and bangin' early in your career (small firm > large firm).

Don't think crips/bloods members would have access to a computer let alone know what exit opps and comp progression is

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

I don't know, I heard that the Latin Kings are up and coming in the middle market areas. The big gangs - with all the new laws, are going to have a tough time competing with the smaller and more nimble ones.

MS-13 is a flat organization, you get great deal exposure, plus there is little face-time needed. They are also very niche (Pharmaceutical Trading), and have the capabilities of a regional bank, but are located all over the US. Their presence on the street is lacking as the office's in the Northeast are located outside of Newark, but they more than make up for that with their devoted presence in the West. Los Angeles is their main hub, but the junior staff are spread all the way down to Mexico City. The prestige is really solid in the South if your from a non or semi target, as they are considered top tier, FINRA, has had little involvement with their hierarchy and the Latin Kings have been decimated by the Volcker rule. No brainer, the perks aren't the best, but the quality of life is much better.

Crips - yes. Bloods don't give a shit about the CFA imo. They only take legacies or ppl who've done a stint a San Quentin. I'd try to get jumped in with the Nortenos and lateral my way into Bloods after 2 years.

Feb 28, 2012

Gangster Disciples are considered more boutique but have solid relationships with Vice Lords, Latin Kings et al should you want to lateral. They vet pretty heavily on technicals though. Be prepared for graffiti skills, properly delivering "ghetto smiles", and ghost-riding. They're more focused on the flash as they have a pretty firm lock on the local market and already expect you to be able to stomp someone that's frontin'.

Guys, only a select few are GFL (Gansters for Life) material. The hours are brutal and the chances of you getting to the top are slim. What you should be shooting for is 2 years either at crips or bloods. It doesn't matter which one, they're both prestigious. You then want to go work for one of the drug cartels, and preferably at one of the megafunds in Colombia. However, word on the street is is that the gov't is coming down on them and compensation is going to be hurt in the long run.

This is assuming you're from a target area (i.e., Long Beach, Compton, etc.) If you're at one of those nontargets (i.e., Greenwich, New Port, Beverly Hills), you're out of luck. I've never seen anyone from there during my 2 year stint.

If youre also willing to conisder NY, this should provide a pretty good overview for industry and player landscape in the NYC area. Although the Bloods outnumber the Crips on a 3:1 basis, there is a high degree of siloing across the structure which may make for a less cohesive culture. Neither one seems to be a "blue blood" operation anymore, so if it's prestige you're ultimately looking for, you may want to look at some of the smaller players that have a niche focus.

You really need to think of what you want to do. Have you thought of this? Do you want to be involved in drugs, hits, prostitution, extortion, trafficking, or fraud? This should be your primary decision point. Crips and Bloods, while both prestigious may not offer everything you want. They don't do a lot in trafficking or fraud. I've heard they have their hands is prostitution, but the quality just isn't that great.

If your Asian you probably won't fit in to either of those gangs. You might want to get on with the Asian Boyz and transition to the Crips, since there is some movement from Asian Boyz to Crips. Though you'll never see a Crip go down to the Asian Boyz. Of note both of these gangs are in Long Beach, so that might be a good location for you. There are also a few white gangs in the Long Beach area, but if you join one of those gangs you can forget about moving to any type of other gang. A swastica on the forehead pretty much swears your loyalty.

Epic thread...

Anyone care to expand on the international ops? It seems you'd want to be affiliated with a world class BSD who operates on a global macro level and pays out to his lieutenants

Joaquin "Shorty" Loera - drug lord
Top DEA target. Heads the Sinaloa Cartel international drug traffickers - a major global organisation. He reputedly pays up to $2million to lieutenants who keep him safe and is said to change mobile phones after each conversation.
Doesn't kill innocent people and is regarded as a Robin Hood-type character.

Dawood Ebrahim - Do I need to explain this one?
It's rumoured that just Googling his name is enough to put you on an FBI watch-list...

Matteo Messina Denaro "Diabolic"
The Italian mafia remains the most famous (prestigious?) organized criminal group, and Matteo Messina Denaro has taken control of it. Denaro appeared on the first Forbes Most Wanted list two years ago. Known as a playboy with a penchant for the fast life, girls, Porsches and fancy Rolex watches. His org is well positioned to benefit from the European financial crisis.

James "Whitey" Bulger
Leader of the Winter Hill Gang, an Irish-American crime family based in Boston that controlled the illicit drug trade and extortion rackets in South Boston. Estimated wealth between $30 million and $50 million and he has associated with major criminal enterprises throughout North America and Europe. On the run with his longtime girlfriend, using the wealth and contacts he developed through his criminal operations to stay out of the reach of law enforcement.

Ultimately you probably would want to make the move to management/strategy consulting at a prestigious international organization out of Italy or Russia, or maybe a commodities trader in Colombia or Mexico, but we all know those jobs are hard to get fresh off of the streets. For your first few years bangin, I'd stick with bulge bracket gangs like the Crips or Bloods...prestige on that end is a bit of a wash since it depends a lot on which set you're in (Five Oh Three represent). I've heard some people talk about MS-13...unless you're deadset on working in emerging markets, I think you'd be better off aiming for the bulge bracket. Crips also seem to have more prestigious alumni with Snoop Dogg, instead of that clown Lil Wayne, so I'd say most Crips sets would probably have better exit ops

Since we're on the topic, what commodities would you be positioning your clients in now? Is the long meth/short heroin trade still on?

Hmm cannot you get a FT from C or B if your not black or hispanic? I heard they had a class action lawsuit against they the LAPD for not allowing Whites or Asians join.

Oct 12, 2012

Either one would be fine. Just avoid the latin kings. They're like the indian call center of gangs.

They are both really competitive. They both put that, hmmmm, intimidation factor on the resume that IB just can't resist.

i say we just branch off and create our own group based off of theft and then investing our profits into penny stocks. could have meetings once a week where we indulge in some henny and purps and boast about the licks we hit earlier in the week.

Family syndicate compared to gangs

Perks of syndicate side:
1. Progression - soldier -> made man -> boss -> upper management
2. Exit ops -> politics (Kennedy Family), private industry (Gotti), retirement
3. Training -> early recruitment age, secondary (work with crew), post secondary (prison)
4. Connectivity -> unions, policians, police, media, private industry
5. International platform with overseas assignments avaiable for the adventurous
6. Vertically integrated business model
7. Sophisticated financial services available for qualified participants

Downsides:
1. Strict hierarchy, higher level of discipline, blood lines sometimes a factor
2. Slow progression, typically have to stab backs to get ahead, takeovers frequent
3. Severely restricted post secondary ops (aka, fewer options in private industry)
4. Restricted access to growth industries (aka, drugs & weapons)
5. Tougher regulatory environment than past decades (FBI making so many damn rules, DEA, RICO, PATRIOT)
6. Increased privatization of traditional industries: aka legal gambling, prostitution, and increased use of private security companies
7. Increased hostility from media and general culture than in past eras, some blame politics, others just see a secular trend towards industry restructuring in the post 911 environment

All in all, it's an issue of fit: where can you do your best work? There are opportunities on both sides, but one is more focused on the distribution end and the other is more focused on the institutional side of the underworld business. One size does not fit all. Some people jump between the gang side and the syndicate side early in their careers, but by post secondary education time it should be clear where you want to build your career. Jumping from syndicate to syndicate (aka LCN vs mafiya) is typically done on a contract basis only, permanent employment is rare for job switchers and contract workers. Some people do make the jump but it's rare and heavily regulated (FBI again, they got their noses in everything). As with all such ventures, death, dismemberment, dislocation, relocation, imprisonment, and general disgrace are commonplace.

Hey, why not, I got stuck on a boring ass call...

Pshh Crips and Bloods are so 90's. You should go to Chicago and be a GD or a BD. Its a rough and even deadly work environment some would say but there's plenty of exit opportunities like signing a deal with Chief Keef. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJYpSRsyUU4

Aug 8, 2015

Ehh... I would say your best bet is to join ISIS before recruiting turns Goldman Sachs caliber. Sarting pay is above-average and they're soon to become a national powerhouse. Bloods have been declining and Crips have went similar to Lehman. Regional powerhouse for sure, soon to be global.

Since no one bothered to actually answer the question, it's definitely the bloods.
