2017 APD/ADC MBB Full Time Recruiting Updates

Hey guys, it's time for the sequel to last year's popular thread. This thread is primarily focused towards those APDs/ADCs (PhD/JD/MD) applying for full-time positions to MBB. While MBB seems to have a monopoly on the ADC application process, we can also use this thread to share information and deadlines about tier-2 (LEK, Oliver Wyman, etc.) opportunities for ADCs.

Here are the links to the previous threads from 2016 and 2015.

I'll start us off:

PhD STEM / USA - West Coast / Semi-Target

  • McK - submitted 7/17, waiting
  • Bain - submitted 7/20, waiting
  • BCG - submitted 7/23, waiting

Received email from BCG today (8/1) to have a short phone chat with the ADC Recruiting Director from Chicago. I think this is because I work in NYC and know the recruiting people there relatively well (open houses, competitions) but my first office choice was Chicago.

PhD STEM/east coast US-Asia/ non-target McK - get an interview from Insight program. No scheduling yet. BCG - submitted 7/23, notified the 1st round interview 8/10 Bain - submitted 7/30, dinged 8/10

I speculate that BCG and Bain recruiter communicate with each other to give the decision. They have been sending out reply at the same day last year as well. :P

PhD STEM/South US/ semi-target McK - Invited after the Insight program. Interview scheduled on 8/8 BCG - Invited to early interview after Bridge application(didn't attend Bridge). Interview scheduled on 8/11 Bain - Invited to first-round after AIC. Interview scheduled on 8/28 Good luck everyone!!

Mixed feelings. One interview went really well(connected with the interviewer+nail the case). Didn't solve the math problem for the other case (There were 3 big charts to look at and the calculation were ambiguous. But I heard from other candidates that they found that the math problem is really hard too). We'll see how it goes. Keep my fingers crossed.

Got dinged after one week waiting for McKinsey. Both interviewers thought I did a good job during the interview but no office picked me up for a final round. Got into Bain final round, which will be in two weeks. Anyone has suggestions on how to prepare for Bain final round?

MD currently working in the US.

McK - submitted and invited to take CEB test (received that email yesterday); previously attended their MD workshop over summer.

BCG - interview mid Aug given after attending Bridge.

Bain - submitted application (no prior interaction with firm at all).

Question to the people who got invited to take the assessment test - were you guys all invited to the insight program or simply received the invite to take the test after your online application?

Experienced JD, Midwest, Target. Previously Bain 1st round, BCG 2nd round as experienced hire via referral, did not use referral this time.

McK: Submitted 7/17 - HR reject 7/21. This is ridiculously fast, my guess is for some reason my online application didn't go through the 2018 ADP recruiting channel. Bain: Submitted 7/21 - waiting BCG: Submitted 7/23 - waiting

Figured so, only McK specifically mentioned that experienced JDs are also welcomed to apply, then they turned me down pretty quickly. No news from BCG/Bain either, will have to apply off-cycle via referrals later this year.

Postdoc, STEM, Midwest, Target

McK: 7/16 - Waiting BCG - 7/19 - Waiting (received an email to confirm the earliest and latest start dates) Bain - 7/19 - Waiting

PhD STEM/South/Semi-target McK - rejected from Insight but invited to early interview rounds for full time Bain - attended AIC, waiting for full time response BCG - rejected from bridge, waiting for full time response

Sorry to hear that. And Bain's AIC sounds like a joke. They invited you to AIC but did not give you an interview? Then what's the point of organizing the AIC?

I applied last year to McKinsey, took the test and passed, but didn't get past Round 1. I was asked to apply again in the following year. I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and if you were asked to take the test again the following year?

Did they contact you saying you will be interviewed for first round or did the recruiter tell you that after your unsuccesfull application last time around?

Yes, these are for start dates for late next summer (I think some start in August 2018). The APD deadlines for Bain, BCG, and McKinsey have already passed, but applications for other types of candidates may still be ongoing.

McKinsey -7/17-waiting Bain-7/27-waiting BCG 7/27-waiting

I guess I submitted past the deadline for BCG and Bain, thought it was rolling admission if you didn't attend a target school. Guess we'll see how it goes.

If you don't mind me asking... how did you (and everyone on this thread) know the deadline for McK and BCG? I was able to find Bain's app deadline on its website but had no clue about M and the other B.

Here was the McKinsey link: http://www.mckinsey. com/careers/students/application-deadlines Here is a BCG link (although I went through the grad school "search for your school" tool and that was where I found the original deadline): https://www.bcg. com/en-us/careers/path/consulting/advanced-degrees/apply.aspx

I've been taking my dates from the Oxford campus page, which I assumed was an international date! I'm wondering if there is a different application date for different countries, as McKinsey seem to say "US applicants" and "UK applicants", although I can't see how this would work as surely the US offices would be full already...

I've emailed to confirm, but they really need to make it clearer in future events that there is an earlier deadline, and to appreciate that when looking at a campus' page, people may be thinking of applying to offices outside of that country.

My question is for those who attended Bridge or Insight. Could those who attended offer any additional perspective/knowledge/experience they gained at these events with respect to the interview process (personal or case components)? I did not get accepted to Bridge or Insight, but am interviewing with McKinsey in a few weeks and am waiting on BCG.

According to my CEB email from McKinsey :

Please note: · Assessments must be completed by end of day, Thursday, August 3 · RD1 Interview invitations will be communicated in mid-August · RD1 Interviews will take place in September; candidates interested in non-US offices may have a slightly different timeline

Hey, re: Mck CEB test.

I've just done the CEB test, and on my assessment homepage it says "completed" - but nothing else happened when I sat the test... no 'click here to finish' or 'results' page. What gives? Do we not get the results from the real test?

Similarly, if we haven't been invited to take the CEB test yet is there still a chance? Most people seemed to have received invitations for CEB last week.

STEM PhD/East Coast/Target

Midwest, STEM Ph.D., semi target school, applying non-US office

McKinsey -7/21-waiting, signed up the International Recruiting Night 2017, no news... Bain-7/21-waiting, no news... BCG 7/21-waiting, received the email to confirm the earliest and latest start dates

Questions: 1. If I haven't been invited to take the CEB test yet, is there still a chance? 2. Does the application to non-US offices have a different timeline? Does anyone know something?

Great Thanks! Good luck!

Good luck all! Given some people might be interested in interviewing for non-MBB firms, I'll include other firms I've applied to as well.

PharmD / USA - East Coast / Non-Target McK - submitted 7/17, took CEB, heard back 8/11. 1st round interview 9/6-9/7 Bain - submitted 7/21, dinged BCG - submitted 7/23, heard back 8/11, 1st round interview 9/8 Clearview - submitted 8/6, heard back 8/10. Interview 8/24 Putnam Associates - submitted 8/13 Oliver Wyman - submitted 8/13

JLibr - Did you get a different required "complete by" date? Everyone else has been talking about the Aug 3 completion date they were given by McKinsey.

Engineering PhD, South USA, non-target, (target for BCG only) McK - submitted 7/17, waiting Bain - submitted 7/21, waiting BCG - 1st round 8/18 after attending Bridge

Thanks. McK asked me to have more leadership experience which I worked on for the last 1 year. BCG asked me to improve more on business knowledge. I think this feedback shows more or less what kind of people they prefer.

No, I don't think anyone has heard back from Bain yet, and BCG hasn't scheduled the interviews yet either. The only likely rejection is from McKinsey if you didn't get a CEB test invite. (This information is for us who did not apply for the summer programs. Those that applied to Bridge/Insight seem to be fast-tracked or on a different schedule.)

I have contacted the AT Kearney recruiter for my school (Midwest area) and they said ATK will only recruit summer associate this year. I would appreciate it if anyone can share some recruitment information about ATK in your area. Thanks!

about the CEB test, how many paragraphs and how many questions will be expected? (I am applying next year)

fight for MBB

It is standard CEB test. 19 minutes for 30 verbal questions, and 25 minutes for 18 numerical questions. The problems themselves are not difficult, but time is quite limited. I can barely finish all the questions in time.

Yes, I received an email for a Bain 1st round interview late last night and just read the email about 30 mins ago. I'm at an east coast target school.

My understanding is that you did not get notified of your results. You either get an interview or you do not.

Did anyone experience application to MBB international offices, like Canada? What is the general timeline of recruiting? Are they later than US in general? Thank you

I received the rejection email from Bain today. Still haven't heard from BCG, although it seems like a lot of people are hearing back today.

PhD STEM / USA - West Coast / Semi-Target

McK - submitted 7/17, waiting (no invite for CEB) Bain - submitted 7/20, rejected 8/10 BCG - submitted 7/23, waiting

Quite the busy day; another update. Got an interview with BCG. Very grateful to have an interview with one company.

PhD STEM / USA - West Coast / Semi-Target

McK - submitted 7/17, rejected 8/11 Bain - submitted 7/20, rejected 8/10 BCG - submitted 7/23, interview scheduled for early September.
