2017 APD/ADC MBB Full Time Recruiting Updates
Hey guys, it's time for the sequel to last year's popular thread. This thread is primarily focused towards those APDs/ADCs (PhD/JD/MD) applying for full-time positions to MBB. While MBB seems to have a monopoly on the ADC application process, we can also use this thread to share information and deadlines about tier-2 (LEK, Oliver Wyman, etc.) opportunities for ADCs.
Here are the links to the previous threads from 2016 and 2015.
I'll start us off:
PhD STEM / USA - West Coast / Semi-Target
Post-doc (target) / Ph.D. STEM (semi-target) / East Coast McKinsey - Submitted 7/15, Waiting Bain - Submitted 7/20, Waiting BCG - Submitted 7/20, Waiting - Rejected on 8/10
Received email from McKinsey for taking the CEB - 7/26
Received email from BCG today (8/1) to have a short phone chat with the ADC Recruiting Director from Chicago. I think this is because I work in NYC and know the recruiting people there relatively well (open houses, competitions) but my first office choice was Chicago.
when did you receive the CEB link email after you received email from McK?
8/3 --> Took McKinsey CEB, quite similar to the practice questions, and they provide 8 more verbal and quant practice questions.
PhD STEM/east coast US-Asia/ non-target McK - get an interview from Insight program. No scheduling yet. BCG - submitted 7/23, notified the 1st round interview 8/10 Bain - submitted 7/30, dinged 8/10
I speculate that BCG and Bain recruiter communicate with each other to give the decision. They have been sending out reply at the same day last year as well. :P
Congratulations. Would you mind share the date of your 1st round interview. Thx.
Thanks! I haven't received a specific date yet. Will let you know once I heard back.
PhD STEM/South US/ semi-target McK - Invited after the Insight program. Interview scheduled on 8/8 BCG - Invited to early interview after Bridge application(didn't attend Bridge). Interview scheduled on 8/11 Bain - Invited to first-round after AIC. Interview scheduled on 8/28 Good luck everyone!!
How did your McK interview go?
Mixed feelings. One interview went really well(connected with the interviewer+nail the case). Didn't solve the math problem for the other case (There were 3 big charts to look at and the calculation were ambiguous. But I heard from other candidates that they found that the math problem is really hard too). We'll see how it goes. Keep my fingers crossed.
Got dinged after one week waiting for McKinsey. Both interviewers thought I did a good job during the interview but no office picked me up for a final round. Got into Bain final round, which will be in two weeks. Anyone has suggestions on how to prepare for Bain final round?
For McK, would you mind sharing which offices did you apply?
I have heard one of my classmates getting a request to take an assessment test from McKinsey. If you didn't hear back, does that mean you didn't get in?
I have the same question. I heard two teammates get the online assessment invitation.
I'm not sure. It's possible that they are sending out emails for the assessment test in waves and/or by region. It's also entirely possible that we didn't get in. :/
MD currently working in the US.
McK - submitted and invited to take CEB test (received that email yesterday); previously attended their MD workshop over summer.
BCG - interview mid Aug given after attending Bridge.
Bain - submitted application (no prior interaction with firm at all).
Question to the people who got invited to take the assessment test - were you guys all invited to the insight program or simply received the invite to take the test after your online application?
I did not apply to Insight. I just applied fresh, and was invited to do the CEB test the day before yesterday.
When did you submit your application?
I applied fresh as well, on July 17th, and got the CEB email today, on July 26th.
I applied on the 17th and got the CEB email on the 24th. Did not apply to the insight program.
Experienced JD, Midwest, Target. Previously Bain 1st round, BCG 2nd round as experienced hire via referral, did not use referral this time.
McK: Submitted 7/17 - HR reject 7/21. This is ridiculously fast, my guess is for some reason my online application didn't go through the 2018 ADP recruiting channel. Bain: Submitted 7/21 - waiting BCG: Submitted 7/23 - waiting
I was told that ADP channel is only for currently enrolled students/post-docs and not for candidiates with professional experience
Figured so, only McK specifically mentioned that experienced JDs are also welcomed to apply, then they turned me down pretty quickly. No news from BCG/Bain either, will have to apply off-cycle via referrals later this year.
PhD, social sciences, West Coast, semi-target
McK -- applied 7/17 -- waiting BCG -- 1st round interview on 8/11 after phone interview for Bridge (not accepted to Bridge) Bain -- applied 7/21 -- waiting
BCG -- invited to final round (tentative date 9/8) McKinsey -- rejection 8/11 Bain -- rejection 8/10
How was the first round? I am gonna have two 45-minutes case interviews. Any behavioral questions or just cases?
do you mind sharing how did you hear back about second round interview for BCG? email/phone?
How's the interview?
Postdoc, STEM, Midwest, Target
McK: 7/16 - Waiting BCG - 7/19 - Waiting (received an email to confirm the earliest and latest start dates) Bain - 7/19 - Waiting
Update:
McK: Waiting (No CEB invite yet) BCG: 1st round - will be scheduled next week Bain: Reject
Congrats!
did you do bridge?
5th year PhD student, STEM, Midwest, Non-Target
McK: 7/17 - Waiting BCG - 7/23 - Waiting (received an email to confirm the earliest and latest start dates) Bain - 7/21 - Waiting
PhD, STEM, Northeast, Target
McK: 7/17, waiting Bain: 7/20, waiting BCG: not applied
PhD STEM/South/Semi-target McK - rejected from Insight but invited to early interview rounds for full time Bain - attended AIC, waiting for full time response BCG - rejected from bridge, waiting for full time response
Update:
Bain - rejected
Sorry to hear that. And Bain's AIC sounds like a joke. They invited you to AIC but did not give you an interview? Then what's the point of organizing the AIC?
I applied last year to McKinsey, took the test and passed, but didn't get past Round 1. I was asked to apply again in the following year. I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and if you were asked to take the test again the following year?
Similar situation. Applied for intern last year to McKinsey, passed the test, dinged at Round 1. This time I was not asked to do the test either.
Oh I see, anyone who has taken the test and passed before get invited to take it again this time around?
Did they contact you saying you will be interviewed for first round or did the recruiter tell you that after your unsuccesfull application last time around?
I'm almost in the same situation. Took the test for Insight last year and dinged at Round 1 interview after Insight. Was not asked to apply again this year but applied full time anyway. Waiting for any response currently.
Undergrad (target) / PhD (semi-target) McKinsey- invited to take online CEB test Bain- waiting BCG- waiting
Can I just ask, are these applications for starting in September 2018? Whenever I check the websites they say applications open in August/September.
Yes, these are for start dates for late next summer (I think some start in August 2018). The APD deadlines for Bain, BCG, and McKinsey have already passed, but applications for other types of candidates may still be ongoing.
Oh, why does it say "Applications are accepted from August through October"? When I went to a BCG advanced degree event last year they gave a similar timeline.

Non-target undergrad biochem, work experience chemistry manufacturing, Non-target chemistry PhD. UG GPA 3.3, GRAD GPA 3.9
McKinsey -7/17-waiting Bain-7/27-waiting BCG 7/27-waiting
I guess I submitted past the deadline for BCG and Bain, thought it was rolling admission if you didn't attend a target school. Guess we'll see how it goes.
BCG- Heard back 8/10- no interview McKinsey- Heard back 8/14- no interview Bain-still waiting as of 8/14 Oliver Wyman- Applied 7/31 LEK- Applied 7/31 Clearview- Applied 8/3
What role at Oliver Wyman did you apply for? Do you have a link? Best of luck!
are you an APD? does Oliver Wyman consider APD applicants without business experience?
clearview-dinged on 8/17
If you don't mind me asking... how did you (and everyone on this thread) know the deadline for McK and BCG? I was able to find Bain's app deadline on its website but had no clue about M and the other B.
In my case, we had final reminder emails sent to the school with the deadlines for the APD application.
Here was the McKinsey link: http://www.mckinsey. com/careers/students/application-deadlines Here is a BCG link (although I went through the grad school "search for your school" tool and that was where I found the original deadline): https://www.bcg. com/en-us/careers/path/consulting/advanced-degrees/apply.aspx
Anyone heard anything about deadlines from non-MBB firms? I.e. Deloitte life science specialist, Oliver Wyman, etc
McKinsey- interview thru Insight mid aug BCG- interview thru Bridge mid aug Bain- interview through AIC aug
I've been taking my dates from the Oxford campus page, which I assumed was an international date! I'm wondering if there is a different application date for different countries, as McKinsey seem to say "US applicants" and "UK applicants", although I can't see how this would work as surely the US offices would be full already...
Re-visiting the McK website it states 26 Oct deadline for London and international, except US. So yeah, US is probably full by now...
I've emailed to confirm, but they really need to make it clearer in future events that there is an earlier deadline, and to appreciate that when looking at a campus' page, people may be thinking of applying to offices outside of that country.
My question is for those who attended Bridge or Insight. Could those who attended offer any additional perspective/knowledge/experience they gained at these events with respect to the interview process (personal or case components)? I did not get accepted to Bridge or Insight, but am interviewing with McKinsey in a few weeks and am waiting on BCG.
I'm interviewing in person, no ceb test. I'm from Canada.
Does anyone have an idea on when to expect a rely from Bain or McKinsey?
According to my CEB email from McKinsey :
Please note: · Assessments must be completed by end of day, Thursday, August 3 · RD1 Interview invitations will be communicated in mid-August · RD1 Interviews will take place in September; candidates interested in non-US offices may have a slightly different timeline
Hey, re: Mck CEB test.
I've just done the CEB test, and on my assessment homepage it says "completed" - but nothing else happened when I sat the test... no 'click here to finish' or 'results' page. What gives? Do we not get the results from the real test?
I believe from last's years cohort that you do not get the results. They are sent to McKinsey and I guess we just hope for the best :)
3.25 uGPA. 3.66 JDGPA.
McKinsey -7/21-waiting Bain-7/21-waiting BCG 7/21-waiting
Fingers crossed.
Does McKinsey generally let you know if you are not invited to take the CEB test?
Yes.
Similarly, if we haven't been invited to take the CEB test yet is there still a chance? Most people seemed to have received invitations for CEB last week.
STEM PhD/East Coast/Target
Midwest, STEM Ph.D., semi target school, applying non-US office
McKinsey -7/21-waiting, signed up the International Recruiting Night 2017, no news... Bain-7/21-waiting, no news... BCG 7/21-waiting, received the email to confirm the earliest and latest start dates
Questions: 1. If I haven't been invited to take the CEB test yet, is there still a chance? 2. Does the application to non-US offices have a different timeline? Does anyone know something?
Great Thanks! Good luck!
Great thanks! Just got the email from BCG international recruiting team to have the interview in Mid Oct.
Good luck all! Given some people might be interested in interviewing for non-MBB firms, I'll include other firms I've applied to as well.
PharmD / USA - East Coast / Non-Target McK - submitted 7/17, took CEB, heard back 8/11. 1st round interview 9/6-9/7 Bain - submitted 7/21, dinged BCG - submitted 7/23, heard back 8/11, 1st round interview 9/8 Clearview - submitted 8/6, heard back 8/10. Interview 8/24 Putnam Associates - submitted 8/13 Oliver Wyman - submitted 8/13
JLibr - Did you get a different required "complete by" date? Everyone else has been talking about the Aug 3 completion date they were given by McKinsey.
Sorry, just didn't update. I had the same deadline as everyone else.
FYI all, some tier 2 deadlines coming up:
LEK deadline (LSS) = 9/4 ATK deadline (Sr. Business Analyst) = 9/17 OW deadline (entry level, 1 yr eval to MBA-level instead of 2 AFAIK) = 9/17
Could you say a little bit more about ATK & OW, please? In particular, how did you learn that PhDs are hired as Sr Business Analyst at ATK and about the PhD promotion pattern at OW? Thanks.
Another deadline:
Parthenon-EY (entry level Associate): 9/29
May I ask where you got this deadline? I can't seem to find any deadlines (I'm at a non-target for EY-P). Thanks!
Engineering PhD, South USA, non-target, (target for BCG only) McK - submitted 7/17, waiting Bain - submitted 7/21, waiting BCG - 1st round 8/18 after attending Bridge
Congratulations on making to final round for both MK and BCG. What feedback did they give you as reason not to extend an offer?
Thanks. McK asked me to have more leadership experience which I worked on for the last 1 year. BCG asked me to improve more on business knowledge. I think this feedback shows more or less what kind of people they prefer.
I've applied to McKinsey, BCG and Bain around their deadlines and haven't heard anything from any of them until now. Is it reasonable to assume that my application has been rejected at all the three firms?
For everything I've ever applied for with MBB they have at least had the courtesy of sending rejections...it might be worth contacting the recruiter.
Thank you for providing that information.
No, I don't think anyone has heard back from Bain yet, and BCG hasn't scheduled the interviews yet either. The only likely rejection is from McKinsey if you didn't get a CEB test invite. (This information is for us who did not apply for the summer programs. Those that applied to Bridge/Insight seem to be fast-tracked or on a different schedule.)
Thank you for sharing that.
Does anyone know the deadline for Oliver Wyman and ZS? The only deadline I know other than MBB is LEK, which is Sep 3rd for the life science specialist.
QuintiilesIMS deadline is today. havent heard about the other firms aside from MBB
Was that deadline for advanced degree candidates? Do you have a link?
I have contacted the AT Kearney recruiter for my school (Midwest area) and they said ATK will only recruit summer associate this year. I would appreciate it if anyone can share some recruitment information about ATK in your area. Thanks!
Was told that ATK is still recruiting this year from someone in the firm (NY area). How many and whether that holds true laterally across regions, I don't know, but this came from both a consultant and the recruiting team.
about the CEB test, how many paragraphs and how many questions will be expected? (I am applying next year)
It is standard CEB test. 19 minutes for 30 verbal questions, and 25 minutes for 18 numerical questions. The problems themselves are not difficult, but time is quite limited. I can barely finish all the questions in time.
Thank you for the info. One more question, about verbal questions, how many paragraphs are roughly included?
Has anyone heard back from Bain?
Yes, I received an email for a Bain 1st round interview late last night and just read the email about 30 mins ago. I'm at an east coast target school.
May I ask which office did you get the interview with?
Are you applying to an east coast office? If so, which one?
E9999 - Did you do any summer program?
Got email for Bain 1st Round today. West coast.
congrats!
Congrats! That's great. Did you do any of their summer programs? AIC or ADvantage?
Anyone heard back from CEB yet?
My understanding is that you did not get notified of your results. You either get an interview or you do not.
Did anyone experience application to MBB international offices, like Canada? What is the general timeline of recruiting? Are they later than US in general? Thank you
received a rejection email from Bain today.
I just got the rejection email as well.
Bain is not interested in pursuing my application.
Undergrad: International, Target. Master+PhD: STEM,Target. (Edit->)Last year 1st round with McKinsey
McKinsey: waiting; rejected 8/11... (bit surprised...I was more interesting than last year) BCG: waiting; invited to 1st round, 08/11 Bain: rejected, :(
Identical situation as yours.
PhD STEM Target McKinsey: waiting BCG: waiting Bain: rejected - I interviewed for summer internships so was hoping to get a FT interview :(
Same here. Selected for summer internship interview, but rejected for full time.
I quickly drew up a spreadsheet so we all have a little bit of a better overview whats going on
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IBU04R8XjKPHMc2NmoUfPfXNxpd59-j…
Feel free to, bit busy myself right now. Someone can also add columns for cross offer stats and whatever at the end if they like
this is awesome. someone get this guy a beer.
starting to look like if you haven't yet heard from BCG it's a no go. but who knows.
lol someone deleted my entry...?
Think they're reschuffled because someone used the data filters, maybe try to look again
Hey guys- whoever is messing with the spreadsheet needs to stop. All of the Northeast entries have been deleted, including myself....
.
