Locus Analytics Interview

Hi,

Next week I'm having a phone interview with a company called Locus Analytics. They can be roughly categorised as a boutique, market research firm. There is not much information for this company online. Has anyone gone for their interview before?

Thanks.

haha i see.. engineering student fyp deadline should be coming up.. haha as an accounting student with no interest in big4 i'm one of the few in biz school still hunting for jobs.. what about u?

finance yes, but i have always wanted to open up my own firm in the future so a startup is way more appealing to me.. oh by the way there is another post on this website.. someone from canada also having this interview.. then someone replied saying he already did the phone interview.. mostly fit-based questions like tell me more about yourself kinda stuff.. you can go dig that post out.. i can see the link in this page, you shld be able to see it too..

hey didn't receive your msg.. is it supposed to show up in my email or somewhere else on this site? haha i'm also very very far from 1st class... it looks like they are looking more for experiences than grades.. care to share any unique experiences you have? i'm sure you got something different from most people

Hey. Also interviewing with them next week.

International, but not based in Singapore.

The earlier post that was mentioned was deleted. I can only assume the Canadian candidate did not want to share the info that was provided to him. I read it and came back to check the next day and it was no longer available.

Seem to be interviewing in excess of 100 candidates at this stage. Any idea how many people the firm is aiming to hire? Can't be more than 3 or 4 I think.

i don't see any deleted post in that thread. there is a person named steeelex who shared about the interview. which one are you referring to?

i am not sure how many they are interviewing, but what makes you say it's 100+? there were at maximum like 30 interview timeslots on the google calendar. and yes i do think it can't be more than 10 people.

which country are in?

I logged on shortly after the email was sent. Interviewing four days this week, and one day next week. Many time slots were double. I suspect you may have logged on a little after me once quite a few time slots had already been booked. When I checked there were around 80, and I suspect a number had already been boked by that time.

Yes, I think it was the thread by steeelex. I can't seem to access it anymore.

@greenblob i think the most important information from the deleted thread was that the phone interview was more about fit-based questions like tell me about yourself.. steeeelix passed the phone interview but declined a second round bcos he already had a job offer from somewhere else..

lol bad connection from canada to the US? that means it'll be worse for us lol. did they let you know how many rounds there will be, and when they'll let you know if you passed to the 2nd round?

Man I had my interview today and I was so nervous that I think I totally bombed it :( :( Without going much into details, when they asked me to talk about myself and/or describe particular situations, I felt so choked that I ended up rehersing materials on my resume. Toward the end of the conversation, I felt my face growing very very hot that when it came to the last question, I asked the interviewer to repeat the question. :( At the end of each question, the interviewer summarized what I said and made short comments on what I said. It would be nice if the interviewer actually meant what she said, but I couldn't tell.

This company sounds really cool and I spent several weeks finding information and reading about it, but I feel like I blew up my chances here :( :( :( .Also, considering that I don't have any internship experiences in finance, even though I am an econ major, I am so mad at myself for screwing up my interview :( :( :(

How many people are they looking to hire, does anyone know? Also, how important will the interview be in order to move me to the next round?

I think it could have stayed just fit questions, but I actually got pretty technical since some of their works are similar to my prior experience. The interviewer was very relax, so I tried to control the interview by asking lots of questions, and just left him around 3-4 questions to demonstrate my experience. In the end, I couldn't hear much due to bad reception so this style kind of backfired.

Thanks FreedayFF.. I think since your experience is relevant, you stand a pretty good chance of proceeding.. and it seems like you were pretty much in control of the whole conversation.. did you ask questions throughout the interview? or did u ask most of the questions towards the end?

I done the interview, the interviewer has no question for me...... I am very sad, he give a introduction for their company business. After that, I just introduce myself and explain why I am interested in their company. Three rounds in total, all of them are phone interview, I have asked him. Full-time work in New York. Hope it is helpful for us. Did they ask you very specific question about your major or research? I am sure one thing is the interviewer very like my research experience and said that why he select me as candidate.....

Yuan, next time you could just wait for a few seconds. It might be awkward a little bit, but a short pause  will give the interviewer time to think up questions for you. Sometimes I'd just flat out ask "do you have any questions for me?"

@ Freeday FF, true, finally I have no words... I directly ask he do you have any questions for me. But, but, he said that's all.... I have no idea, does he think my introduction is enough.....Does people discussed here are all from NTU or Singapore. A few students here are NTU students... @Jellykocat11, I did not ask the second round timing... forget it... Maybe TMR someone could ask this question, this whole week they are running first round interview.

Hi everyone, just saw this thread. I seemed to have the impression that the 2 year program is just that, so after 2 years, you are on your own once again. I was asking an unrelated qns and I got that impression.

not even on 2nd round yet, but @FreedayFF, i kinda asked them about what happens after 2 years..they said while they're not sure yet, "you take your experience to other firms". i.e. it's a 2 year contract kind of thing.

Wawa, so cool, someone done the second run. I think Singapore candidate did first run thus week, and when you get second round interview after your first round @killergorllariv

I had a couple interviews and after the second one ended up getting an offer. From Seattle over here. Offer was extended on April 4th. First interview was March 21st, second one was March 26th. Overall quick experience. First and second round was not much different.

I had my first interview last Friday evening, and I am hoping to hear back soon about a second round! She told me that they are aiming to hire about 15 people, fyi

Thanks for the info FreedayFF. I read from Wall Street Journal that this year, the demand for H1B exceeded the supply so it has to be allocated by balloting. Do you think that means for all those people needing H1B will have no more chance?

just read this on wiki, according to free trade agreements btw usa and sg, sg has a 5400 reserve limit for h1b visas. I was wondering how some of my friends, yet o apply for visa, who were hired by an american mnc, were going to head over there for a 16mth training stint if the wsj article was indeed true. guess this will be their ticket there

any of y'all applying for the FT position? i just had my 2nd round today...interviewer said there will be a 3rd round in their offices too, btw. Also, she asked at the end of the interview if I was legally allowed to work in the US, and if i would ever need any sort of sponsorship to work there...just thought that that'd apply to what you guys were talking about regarding visas.

Hey NJ - I am applying for an FT position. Did you get the impression that everyone will have their 3rd round in the office? Or do you think they only said it to you because you might be living/studying close by?

nj1425:

sour grapes much? maybe you haven't heard back about your first round because you didn't make the cut. you're the one sounding unprofessional here.

This is your first time interviewing for a finance position right? Do you think I haven't realized it yet? Even so, they could have sent a rejection email. Leaving the candidates hanging as a backup plan is definitely looked down upon.

My first time interviewing for a finance position, and I still got further than you....ouch.

Wow we have a BSD heading to greatness here. Good luck getting an offer with that attitude. Btw, I'm still the one with a job... ouch.

@turkeymonkey That was my initial reaction. I think it's pretty much decided already. The only reason that I can think of for this long delay is they would offer to the tier 1 candidates first, and if some of them reject, they will offer to a waitlist. This process may take a while. But again that's just my speculation.

I was interviewed in the 3rd round by a Locus alumnus based in Singapore now. He told me those who went through the 3rd round will receive a yay/nay reply from the company. I understand that the recruiters will run the candidates by Rory Riggs, and when i mentioned that's gonna take some time, the interviewer told me that's not necessarily so. In any case, I have faith that Locus will return a reply to those who went through the last round, so don't strike it off just yet! =)

@axlaxed when did you have your third round interview? This week? I had mine on Wednesday of last week and just figured they already made their decisions.

I was extended an offer last week after a fourth round Skype interview. I'm not sure how many other offers have been made. If you had a third round interview and haven't heard back yet, you might still be in the running.

Congrats aklamun! I had a third round from a Locus alumnus based in Singapore..Was that your fourth round? Cause he didnt tell me whether they will reply with an explicit yes/no.

My fourth round was pretty much the same as the third round in-person interview. I think it was just a chance to talk more closely with some of the other members of Locus. I didn't ask about an explicit yes/no reply from them.

A friend of mine did the high school internship and explained exactly what he did at Locus. I found the whole system/theory to be incredibly fascinating.I won't go in to detail here because I know he signed a nondisclosure agreement. I know that he worked from 9:30-3 or 5 or something, but once again this was for high school internship position. I also know they provide you with an unlimited metrocard for transportation purposes, AND they pay you. From what I could tell the internship seemed like a great opportunity and I congratulate all who were accepted. I am going to be a college freshman in the fall, and seeing that they disbanded the high school internship program I will certainly be applying in college. If any of you have any questions I can attempt to answer them, but chances are I won't be able to.

All this being said, how hard was it to secure a summer internship position?
