During my superday (doing private credit/direct lending) for Ares I got feedback and they basically told me that what differentiated me was having multiple credit pitches ready to go, and I went straight to talking about them - like they even changed the interview questions for me and basically they were super impressed, as I spoke quickly and rapid-fire on the many ideas that I had.
I also made clear that I had an extreme passion for finance, that I thought about potential investments every day, and that was what clearly differentiated me from the other candidates. Basically, stressing the fact that finance and credit were my main passions by far.
are you working at Ares right now? can you talk a little more about the internship experience/full-time experience as a junior analyst? thanks!

I did mine recently. it was basic basic accounting technicals. nothing on LBOs so dont sweat too much on this
I’d really brush up on paper LBOs (understand the levers), MOIC, MOIC to IRR conversions. Other than that basic accounting and valuation questions.

How many spots does Ares reserve for FT PE?
Usually holds 5-6 spots. 1 for each fund/industry vertical. 4 for ACOF (it has four verticals), 1 ASOF, 1 Energy. They’re 6 this summer, hope that helps.
So they hire more than 5-6 SAs?

Nope. They usually hire as many summers as they have spots for FT (so this year presumably 6 FT spots). I believe FT recruiting only occurs when they have an opening from one of the summers

Any idea on what the second round for PE LA consists of? What type of case study is it? Is it an LBO case study or more of a consulting type question? Is it through video or just over the phone?

Ares converts, rate isn’t as high as IB though. You also get free housing too, which is great.

I can’t speak to other groups, but idk what all this information is about low conversion rates. Last summer (2019) all four PE interns received returns and accepted for FT...

my interviewer told me would notifications would be end of week. How did urs go? Was it pretty standard LBO?

Tbh no clue - my case was based on saving a failing company which completely threw me off my game because I hadn’t dealt with one of those before. When I finally got asked LBO questions I had zero problems but the first bit got me so let’s see

In similar situation as you, I got my second-round invite in a second wave though so maybe superdays will be the same.
