A beard worthy of Joe Perella / Facial hair in M&A

I hate shaving, I hate it with a passion and wish I could get away with shaving once a week instead of every freakin', goddamn day

Unfortunately, I'll be working at an M&A advisory firm this summer where presentation seems to be prized above almost everything else and everyone looks like a model

So guys, how many $multi-trillion deals do I need to close before I can say "F*ck this, I'm going to display Perella-esque facial hair" !!?

Hehe, that's a good 20 years then, never mind, it'll be well worth the wait

Agreed, but I still wish we lived in the good old days when a banker without a beard (and potentially a wonderfully huge mustache!) would have been out of place. I hate shaving, and I doubly hate shaving and buttoning up my collar and wearing a tie right afterwards. Hence the move to S&T where I can live without a tie and avoid the neck-burn (ok, so that wasn't the real reason, but it is a positive factor in the move).

by then

by then, you would have already made a name for yourself and a track record of success. So wouldnt matter if you ugly with a beard, as long as you can execute, its all the clients care about. You can walk into a meeting with a robe (Evan Almighty) and still win a deal! ;)

By the way, is this rule of

By the way, is this rule of not having facial hair as valid for Sales and/or Trading as it is for IBD? And for London as well as NYC in all groups?

Probably more important in Sales, as you meet clients all day. Not so much for trading as you bummed on your chair all the time. You can probably get away with having facial hair as a trader...

story on the trading floor.

story on the trading floor. some analyst used to come in with a clean goatee. md came up to him and said "if i ever see you with that f**king facial hair every again i will go insane". needless to say he has been clean shaven ever since

hawk

Its funny because when we visit clients, we'll be dressed all nice and then we meet these hf managers who are wearing sandals and have the top three buttons of their shirt undone. really should be working on the buyside...

but yea I have yet to see significant facial hair anywhere on the trading floor (some guys might skip a day or 2 of shaving from what I can see) although one of the traders on my desk has a faux hawk.

eh

Eh, I shave probably 3 times a week. I like a little weekend stubble. People in my group don't give a shit unless you need to face a client / prospect.
