Another somewhat trivial fashion question, but hopefully someone can give me some advice.
I am going to be an investment banking summer analyst, and on Fridays employees can wear jeans. I was just advised to make sure the jeans are nice (eg not jeans you would wear to a bar). Does anyone have advice for nice brands of jeans to wear to work on Fridays? I was thinking nicer brands on sites like bluefly.com would be acceptable, but I as wondering if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

by Marcus_HalberstramThey don't have to be anything fancy. So long as its not a pair of destroyed jeans, I think you'll be fine. Darker denim is typically more formal, therefore better for the office and will go with a button down or polo.
Just make sure they fit properly and aren't overly baggy, or overly fitted. Also this is just personal preference of mine, but I tend to not wear anything with a logo on it to work, just cuz I think its kind of douchy (obviously applies more to high end stuff, not Levi's, Diesel, etc...).
If you're completely clueless, just get a pair of Levi's, Lacoste, or something comparable.

I doubt most bankers have the fashion sense to make out a really nice pair of jeans vs. a pair of Levis.

Are you kidding? APCs are raw denim, there are several things wrong with your advice. 1) It will take almost a month to break them in before he can wear them comfortably. 2) They're raw denim, they're going to be absolutely form fitting and totally inappropriate for work.

Well aside from the fact that any schlub on the street can distinguish between levis and quality denim, it's also not correct that most bankers have no fashion sense.

Seems like I struck a nerve? Sorry, but most finance guys are pretty damn nerdy and wouldn't know the difference between a pair of APOs and Kirkland. Sorry guys, hate to shatter the illusion before you start your internships...

Alright, I definitely make an effort when it comes to how I dress, because that's something I choose to pay attention to. However, I do not judge others who choose not to do the same. As long as they have the common sense about what they wear, it's cool (yeah, this thread is ridiculous to start with, not really a complicated issue here). What Ideating said definitely suffices, unless you're banking in San Fran (yeah, I'm trying to be funny).
If I walk into my office and I can read my boss' face as, "Oh god, he's wearing those ____ jeans again," then I'm probably not in the right place.

I mean, I'm not sure what kirklands are, but my point had little to do with fashion in finance - it was simply that, if you can't distinuish between quality denim and the cheap cardboard carpenters wear, then you probably need to get your eyes examined, because you've spent too long staring at excel.
