I'm a freshman at a top target, and I recently submitted an application to the Winning Women event. While I've been able to find a lot of info on the actual events for the day, I still have no idea about what the selection process is like (phone interviews? several rounds of interviews?) or how competitive it is.

i have a phone interview next week - would love to know what the interviews are like. should i expect them more to be like first rounds or more fit questions?

i've heard it's really selective... right off the bat they eliminate about 50% of the population from getting interviews
as anyone heard back, do you know when we hear back? my interviewer said they're discussing candidates last friday

maybe not - they had an rsvp option of "not attending" so if people drop out i'm sure there's a wait list or something
You might still hear back. For those people going to school further away they'd obviously try to expedite things, but if you're closer to NY they may take more time.

I didn't realize it was so competitive - does anyone know what the criteria are? I'm a freshman from a top target (HYP) with a high GPA and pretty good activities/experience; just wondering what I can do to make my profile stronger. Do they tend to take mostly sophomores for this? Does diversity also play a role in this (e.g. African-American or Hispanic), or is it enough to be female?
sorry to hear that :(. the people i know who are going are mostly sophomores, all with good grades. i think work experience helps you stand out, and leadership positions in clubs (which generally are not given to freshmen). best of luck next year!

Got invited to this and I'm going. What should I expect? What is the program like, is it useful, etc... I know there aren't many women here but thought I'd ask.
I did it last year. Its a day long networking event. You get to shadow someone in IB, S+T, or research for a half day. You eat lunch with the analysts and the guest speaker was the global head of m+a or something like that. At the end of the day you go through mock banking interviews. Definitely gives you a leg up.
It's a big networking event and if you impress, you can get a summer internship offer.
In general: 1. Meet as many people, get their business cards, follow up with them. 2. Bring a polished resume. Don't expect them to polish it for you! 3. Practice for the mock interview, have your "story" down and know why you want to do banking.

i signed up for one of these by accident once. realised what it was (similar women IB initiative). realised what it was and didn't go. maybe i should have after all.
hold up you do well at a networking event one day and u can get a IBD/S&T SA offer at a top 2/3 investment bank? forgive me for my lack of political correctness but these diversity/women events have gone too far. The playing field is SO uneven right now.
You can get solid networking contacts from the event and it'll be easier to land an SA interview in the spring but to say that they'll give you an offer straight up is definitely not how it goes. Unless someone simultaneously applies for the diversity scholarship program which does give you an offer but you have to be hispanic/black and female for that.

How long after the interview will they let you know that you got into the event? (or didn't) Is it immediately at the end of the interview or a week or so after?
And what kind of workshops take place at the event?

for those who got interviewed, what were your stats/prior work experiences? I have a 3.9+ gpa at a target and worked at a bank last summer. kind of surprised i didnt get an interview
not a girl - but on a similar note, I go to a target with near perfect grades, had relevant experience this summer and I didn't get picked for the UBS Voyager program. I'm actually confused about how resumes are picked for these kind of programs.

Still nothing. I think they should have enough respect for the candidates at least to send the rejection emails. Shows the culture of the company, that treats people like money-making machines.
