PNC Investment Banking

Hey guys. I just got a call from a recruiter at PNC in regards to their IB analyst program. I have a phone interview scheduled for later this week. How is PNC considered on the Street and what are their strongest product/industry groups? Also, what questions should I expect in the phone interview? Thanks

PT91program seems very well structured. Pay is standard/good for middle market space. best group depends on what you want to do. pm for more info

???

I am still somewhat of a newbie, so take this with a grain of salt...

But that was not my assessment at all. Assuming you are actually refering to PNC (and not Harris Williams (their actual IB division)). They title the program as IB but you do not do any M&A, IPOs, or public issuances....atleast to my understanding. So I would not consider the job even in the "middle market space" at all....

here is a post on their capital markets where you can read my response. They recruit heavily at my campus and I almost accepted a job there before turning it down and signing w a BB later on... I am glad I did not take the position...

PT91as i said it depends on what you want to do. DCM/ECM and FIG as well as all of the S&T is under the PNC business not HW. The most interesting group is probably structured products.

The program itself IS well structured

What group is best if I wanted to leverage it into a more traditional IB role for FT recruiting? Any specifics on pay?

Chris_Marlinnot sure if it has changed but 2 years ago it was 55+7.5

Do you know SA pay?

The groups you mentioned are still the top groups with ABS being the real prize. Public Finance is also not bad if you're interested in that. You'll get worked the hardest, but they provide the best experience. That said, if you take ABS or Syndications full time, don't expect to be exiting well as the skill sets aren't that transferrable to PE or HF. You can definitely leverage the internship into a FT offer at a respectable bank in M&A or coverage. I don't have updated FT PNC salary info, but a few years ago a 1st year could expect about 70+50. I don't know if they've matched the recent Street bump.

Nope, pretty sure i'm waitlisted at this point as I know they have given offers in waves. I've been in contact with some who also haven't heard back.

The Capital Markets Groups at PNC bumped their base and signing bonus this year. It is now 85 base 15 signing (but diminishes the longer you wait to accept your offer). No insight on other bonuses because I have not started yet.

I know that the Capital Markets track two best groups are ABS in NYC and their Loan Syndication and distressed debt specialist group in Pittsburgh, but I'm clueless as to their reps on the street/pay packages. Also anyone heard anything about their S&T rotation program?

I'm assuming this is for their superday? I interned with them last summer and received an offer but accepted an offer somewhere else. All of the questions are very behavioral based. My entire interview only consisted of two technical questions (how does net income flow through the 3 statements and how would you value a bond?) Just make sure you know the basics (ie, why PNC) and have some examples of how you showed leadership (I got asked about leadership qualities/styles in every interview). Its a very laid back process however all of the interviews (I think 8?) were 2 on 1. Also, PNC does not have a traditional IB group as that is handled by Harris Williams. Their LevFin and syndications groups are more along the lines of IB however most of the roles they fill with interns are in the "C&IB Group", which stands for corporate and institutional banking...not investment. I would do a little research about corporate banking and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Interned at PNC cap markets, the corporate banking interns got in at 9 took 1hr lunches, and left at 5 at the absolute latest.

yeah, i heard about PNC doing that. i wouldn't take it over goldman necessarily, but def over CS la. Credit Suisse is really going down hill - not somewhere you want to be. work hard to prepare for your pnc interviews and hopefully you'll get a job there.

...to start your career at an unproven player in IB? There must be something I'm missing here, unless every poster so far is just being sarcastic.

bicoastaldoesn't everyone at the top ivies have a 4.0? Professors throw around those Gentleman's A's like candy.

I know princeton's going through some crazy deflation thing but harvard is still a strong believer in giving good grades to people who deserve them. half of our class graduates with honors.

workhardplayhard124Exactly! my impression is that PNC is really pumping resourecs into their Harris Williams aquisition. What's so tempting about PNC is that I get the feeling these guys are about to blow up (in a good way)

feel exactly the same way. you've got a good head on your shoulders.

Not that location is crucial, but PNC is in pittsburgh. you wanna go there? I mean I grew up in the burgh and loved it. but I certainly would choose nyc over it coming out of college....which i already have. and PNC recruits at schools like PSU and Pitt and other non-targets mostly. How on earth are you claiming that "you definitely won't get an internship there without bb experience"-- once again, people blowing things way way out of proportion

ibanking1234 and his schizophrenic alter egos have been spamming this board for PNC for a while now. Everyone knows that PNC is not a player.

UPDATED: 4:49 PM 2 Louisville PNC branches get 'green' certification The Courier-Journal

The U.S. Green Building Council has certified PNC Bank’s new branches in Taylor Center and Old Brownsboro Crossing.

The branches are the first buildings in Louisville to get the council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating.

Among other steps, the branches' operating costs are reduced nearly 45 percent with maximum use of natural light and construction waste was recycled or salvaged.

You are not clever.

This entire board is going to shit. These super-sarcastic posts laden with IBO inside jokes are getting really annoying. As if this place weren't redundant enough with the serious questions.
