Goldman Sachs SA Accelerated
did anyone get any info on the accelerated interview process this year? last year the first round was due in october, and I haven't heard anything yet
also what type of applicants typically go for accelerated?
mod note (andy): this thread is originally from 9/17/12, but see recent updates regarding offers on the last page of this thread

I did accelerated last year but I think it was in late November. I only applied accelerated because at the info session they told us it allows you to be considered twice. But the info session was the first week of November for my school, so the application process started after that. Just wait until they come to your school and then apply.
anyone else?
It's really competitive. I did it last year as well as a soph. Small groups in final round. Everyone's pretty well qualified. My memory might be a little hazy but I remember it being pretty clear that if you were dinged in the accelerated round then you weren't allowed to reapply in regular rounds?
Yes this is true. I got to the round where there were 3 sophomores left and one 1 got the offer. She was a crazy quant type. I think you have a better chance accelerated than regular though still.
Did this a few years back. Typically there are three rounds of interviews: October, November, and December. Usually the way it works is you apply the month before and interviews are in the second or third week in the months above. The accelerated program started for candidates who were going to be abroad during normal recruiting in the spring but has grown to include people who have exploding offers (typically from their previous SA stint) and people who just want to get the process over with early. When I did it, you needed to get a link and password from your schools recruiter to apply but now I think they list them right on OCR.
The above is correct in that you're considered twice but that's under the assumption that they don't reject you. Typically if they don't really like you they'll put you on hold, see what the rest of applicants look like once regular recruiting kicks off and decide what to do with you. Also, as you can imagine because they haven't seen all of the applicant yet you needed to be on your game. There's obviously less spots and if they have any reservations, your more than likely gone to be out on hold.
any information out on this yet?
yeah i just heard about this again. the deadline are different than last year and there's only 2 not 3 accelerated rounds
Bump on this thread. Does anybody have any further information about this? Is there a dedicated job code to applying for SA Accelerated, or do you just go through the general Summer Analyst application?
There was a code last year.
How do I find out what that code is? I'm looking through their website, but can't find any information about it.
Disclaimer: I go to a target school, and GS's presentation isn't until later this week.
There are still 3 rounds this year (technically), although Accelerated Round 2 and Study Abroad Accelerated have the same deadline. Deadline for round 1 already passed (10/28). Source: I go to a target, got the info sheet.
yeah accelerated round 1 just passed and yes there is a code. i just got it emailed to me last week.
anyone here back about an interview yet? should be hearing back early november for accelerated 1 according to their email.
i think they may be a little bit behind schedule because of the hurricane
Received the code in my inbox two days ago. Does anybody know whether it's easier to get in through the accelerated process or the regular recruiting season?
Does anyone know what kinds of candidates are usually selected? or how big the superday is?
My guess is that its all people with BB sophomore internships, so I doubt it will be any easier than regular recruiting.
It's about 30 people I think. And then half of them get cut after 1 interview. I'm assuming a lot less people apply to this since it's not really advertised unless you know someone who knows someone or whatever, but I think the rigor of the candidates is probably more impressive.
Do they consider applicants from the online application who applied early? If not, I'll just wait it out until regular recruiting. Good luck to all of you.
30 is decent i guess. Do you know how many usually get offers? And how many are put on hold until they see more?
To follow up on previous posts, so do the candidates go through 1 interview, then wait in the lobby for the immediate decision of who advances and who is instantly rejected? How many interviews are there?
It seems that there is no OCR for the accelerated process. Everything is thru gs website. When are interview invitations extended?
Can't remember specifically how many interviews there are in the first round but you'll more likely be waiting in a starbucks somewhere. I remember waiting hours before receiving a call to return for the final round.
Thank you for your interest in the Goldman Sachs Accelerated Process. Your application has been successfully received by the October 28th early application deadline. To the extent that there is interest in your resume, you will be contacted by a member of our recruiting team about next steps. If you are not contacted for an early interview, your application will still be considered at your school’s standard on-campus application deadline.
Just curious, how do they choose who to give the code to?
Just to clarify for the rest of the forum, what whartonbetch posted is the email GS sent this evening to everyone who applied
Lol yup
Just sent the app in for the second process. Does anyone know how many get offers out of the 30 taken up? and whartonbetch, did you intern at a BB sophomore program?
post if you get contacted for interviews!
.
Betch I haven't heard anything either yet, hopefully things will be squared away by Friday. I would be surprised if they gave less than one week notice, incidentally remember the process is supposed to begin in "early nov." It's not unreasonable to assume that there's a back-log because of the hurricane.
wait am I hearing this right? there are only 30 spots company-wide for GS accelerated interviews? and far less than that actually get accelerated offers?
why do i even try
can someone answer this?
Go on to the website and check your status. I haven't gotten an email yet but my status said I was selected to interview and would get an email from a recruiter shortly.
also theres 8 slots
^OMG MINE SAYS THAT TOO
Is everyone else's November 15th as well for IBD? Also jersey city for IBD? Haha what happened to their 200 west office
.
Yeah it was a really stressful experience. They gave us some crazy range like "from noon until 3" to hear back for the second half. I got lucky because I heard back right at noon but I remember some kids sitting around until 3 just to get rejected.
Yeah I did this last year but I was a sophomore at the time so it was a little different. I also did the second accelerated and not the first. I would say there were about 25-30 people there for IBD, that might be highballing it. They split us up into sophomores and juniors. There were 6 sophomores and maybe 20 juniors. Everyone got a first round interview, which was 2-1. Then everyone got a 3 hour break where half the people were called to go home. At this point there were 3 sophomores left. We got 3 back to back 1-1 interviews. Juniors I want to say got 5 but I'm not positive.
oh seriously? that makes me feel a lot better. i've heard horror stories about some technical questions and i definitely feel unprepared in that respect. fingers crossed that it's all behavioral!
Well damn, congrats everyone. Looks like everyone on the board has had good luck...fingers crossed for the second process.
And the behavioral focus is surprising...I figured they'd nail you with technicals since they expect everyone to know their stuff given top internships the previous summer.
That's what I'm wondering! I'm interviewing for ibd. No Idea why it's not at 200 west
A friend who landed it just mentioned the same thing.
And for anyone who is wondering, he just got off of the phone with one of the VP's who'll be interviewing. Sounds like they're really trying to focus on finding the best fit, as everyone is qualified.
And if your status online hasn't changed and you haven't been contacted.... You're not getting an interview for early recruiting I assume?
What are/were the due dates for the three respective accelerated applications? Still time to apply for second or third round of accelerated?
Accelerated Process 2 deadline is Sunday Nov. 25, application code 2013SAP2. Interview notification will be early December and interview dates mid-December.
There isn't a third accelerated process per se, but a process designed for students studying abroad. That process has the same dates as #2, but its code is ABROAD13.
say hypothetically, a friend of mine had already applied to 2013 IBD full time as well as an off-cycle winter Investment Mgmt internship. The system won't allow me..i mean my friend...to apply to Full Time and Summer Internships at the same time...what should I tell my friend to do?
since IBD recruiting is over, should i just withdraw that application and try going for this?
Thanks
I heard yesterday, The ones who havent received anything is because you might be on hold. at least the email I received said that I should let them know if i cannot attend because the waiting list is pretty big. Hope this helps
In 2010, there were 3 rounds in the accelerated process. Each round was something like 25-40 people for IBD, sophomores and juniors.
In 2011, there were 2 rounds. Each round was 25 people.
They bring everyone in for a 30-minute first round interview sometime between 9-11:30am. You get thrown in a waiting pen with all the other applicants and it's as awkward as you can imagine. A few people know each other from other interviews, from prep school, from playing each other in squash/crew/lacrosse/insert-WASPY-sport-here, or from the same study-abroad program. Other than those people having a quiet conversation plus the one obnoxiously ecstatic, bubbly girl who won't shut up, no one is talking and everyone eyes the competition in the room. You get brought out one by one and walked down a hall where you see a series of offices turned into interview rooms, then HR places one of you in front of each door. As the previous victim slithers out, you take their spot in the chamber for a 30-minute bout.
Following that, they tell you you're free until 2pm but to stay by your phone. New York locals disappear to their apartment or dorm room. Those who traveled in hit up the hotel lounge or Starbucks. If they want you to come back for the latter portion of the day, you'll get a call before 2pm. If not, you'll get a call around 3 saying 'thanks for your time, sorry champ.' If you return, you're subject to anywhere from 3-x more 30-minute interviews. In 2010, I knew some kids who had only 3 more interviews before receiving offers, someone who had 5 and got rejected, and I went through 9. Declined for another bank that summer, did the same whole deal in 2011.
Emails already went out extending interviews for AP1 this year.
If I applied for IMD, should I have heard back already? My status still says "current status is application received" and I applied Accelerated Process 1.... I received the email about a week ago saying my app was received in time for the Oct 28th deadline. Does this mean I didn't get an interview?
http://www.goldmansachs.com/careers/students-and-graduates/our-programs…
Anybody know anything about this- what it is besides some virtual webinar series? It talks about some sort of interview at their offices. Unsure if this is a different thing or accelerated process.
To all of you guys applying for this program, what class standing are you guys? Are you guys sophomores or juniors? And what prompted you guys to apply for the accelerated program? Is it so that you have more chances?
I'm applying this year as a Junior, and just trying to get interview over with early. I don't think it really necessarily invites a higher chance of getting an offer.
And IMD is still giving out interviews.
If the second accelerated round is due on November 25th, wouldnt that put the interviews right in the thick of finals period? What if you get invited to interview but have multiple finals right in and around then?
Does anyone know if IMD or Finance applicants have heard anything back from the early application process?
Can you guys share with me on who this accelerated SA program is targeted for? Is this program mainly for target Juniors??
I did it last year for GIR. Chance is the same either do regular recruiting or accelerated.
Has anyone heard back?????
Anyone know when the first-round interviews or superdays for the second accelerated round usually are? I'm wondering if they would conflict with finals, since most of my exams are the week of the 11th. Is that something that they would be flexible about scheduling around?
No one I know has heard back. I'm assuming offers will be today/Monday? Does anyone know how many offers are usually given out?
they called at 4.40 pm, rejected by securities. good luck everyone
whaaat. they're already doing rejections? does that mean offers have already gone out? anyone in IBD heard anything yet?
I heard for IBD, was going to take longer..... i think Monday is a good day to hear back from them...... but securities offers are out..... IMD ????? anyone knows???
Anyone heard back for either IMD or IBD?????
IBD anyone?
has anyone gotten an offer for any of the divisions?
Has anyone heard back for any division for their London office? I swear to God, GS are the slowest f***ers in the entire industry.
heard back, IMD.....
when? outcome?
What time did you hear back? Rejection or offer?
interested in results as well. also can anyone shed light on how interviews were, specifically for IMD- asset management?
i am going through the regular application timeline
I spoke with a recruiter last week and she said interviews for the second-wave of accelerated applications will be on December 13th - right in the middle of finals week. I don't understand why they would do that.
I have two finals that day. so glad i didnt do acc 2
Because they know that everyone who's invited will do whatever they ask, they are GS in the end ;)
thats why there accelerated process 1!!! which was in November hahah good luck.
Was accepted to IBD, got a call Tuesday morning.
Unfortunately, there's no flexibility. You attend the superday or skip it, they don't offer alternative scheduling. Students from schools (like mine) with finals later in December are often the AP2 applicants.haven't heard back yet, but friend just got rejected for IBD just to update everyone.
JUST GOT AN OFFER FOR IBD!!
Congrats :) What office?
.
sorry for the delay, I got accepted for IMD and rejected for securities. they called at about 7.20 pm.
Anyone apply for AP2? If so post updates!!
Applied for AP2, haven't heard anything - anybody else have any updates? If you weren't selected for the Accelerated interview do you just not hear anything back?
I still haven't heard back either
Don't believe they have sent out any invites/updates yet for AP2
Does GS offer spots for sophomores? (as in do they let them intern with them during the summer between sophomore and junior year?
Bump
Applied as a Sophomore early in AP2. No response yet for IBD, GIR, or IMD. non-target
Friend (also Sophomore) applied late in AP1 for IBD, S+T. Heard back that he selection had been made for AP1 a few weeks ago, but he would be considered moving forward.
I also applied early as a sophomore to AP2. [Target, no response yet.]
To those who applied for AP2, what's your application status on the GS site? Mine still reads "Application Received" for IBD in NYC/HK; the only one that's changed is London IBD -- that one switched to "Application Under Review" about a week ago.
I'm a freshman, where do you think I should apply to for an internship this summer?
Update: I applied AP2 for IBD in NYC and status is still application received.
AP2 IBD NYC- Application Received AP2 GIR NYC- Application Received AP2 IMD NYC- Application Received
My application went in on November 12.
Still application received as well - anyone hear back yet?
Just changed to application under review
Yeah mine too. Anyone with experience (NY) know what that means?
*Knows if that means anything special?
I would assume it means they downloaded your resume and dumped the stack on some analysts' desks. They groaned and spent about 2 mins on it before getting back to real work and putting them in "that pile" on their desk till someone asks about it again.
My IBD NYC just changed to 'under review' as well. Hopefully we'll start getting some news soon; good luck all.
mine is the same
Good luck!
I heard that today is the day...
How do you know if you applied for the accelerated process or just regular process. I applied about a month ago, but my status still just says application received?
There's a code, SAP1 and SAP2, to indicate the process.
Where?
Ah, may be in regular process.
Still under review. Bump
Applied IBD - still under review. No updates yet from GS - anyone else?
Still "under review" for IBD
Under Job Code or Advert ID, if you applied early it would say 2013SAP1 or 2013SAP2
My apps are still "Under Review." I learn tonight whether I get an interview with them during their normal recruiting on OCR. It would be odd to learn about that before the accelerated process.
This seems like a more common situation than you might expect. I would guess that the accelerated process is most important for semi-targets (those without OCR) and non-targets.
.
Just realized I never got an email saying my app would be considered with the accelerated process, but I used the code and applied before the deadline. Anyone else not get that message?
I never got an email saying anything specific about accelerated, just the generic one immediately after submitting the app.
Applied to AP2 from a target, are we supposed to hear back about interviews today?
Just got this email:
So no real news yet.
lol you beat me to it. I just received message as well. Sounds like news won't be coming today.
Lol just got that email too. Strange, they said they'd notify applicants of an interview (if at all) in 'Early December'...all we get is an app confirmation
Superday is apparently next week as well - seems like they're a little behind on the timeline. They may have received more applications than they're used to for the accelerated process.
Just found out about this and actually studying abroad next semester Facepalm Any one else in the same situation? what happens when you're abroad recruiting season?
Doesn't GS do only one round of interviews (morning, callbacks, afternoon, decision). So it would make sense if the superday is next week- I would bet they will notify you by the end of this week. I would also bet it is next Friday- complete guess, but they usually try to place these things at the end of the week and not drop them in the middle.
Someone posted in this thread earlier that they heard superday would be on the 13th. Not sure how credible that information is though.
I heard from two separate HCM people who showed up for the on-campus information session that the superday is on the 13th.
^ for AP1 they only gave us 1 week advance notice for superday so if you're confident, start preparing now. also ours was on a thursday
What did you need to prepare for? I thought it would mostly be fit and market knowledge...
Can someone who went thru AP1 please explain the timeline and every step of the way. When did you get got contacted for an interview? Was it just super day or was there a phone screen? How did they run super day? How long after super day interviews did you get contacted for an offer?
This has got to be one of the weirder threads I have been on. Reminds me of college app season.
Any London bros?
I think AP is only for US internships, but I'm not sure. I applied to London for IBD, and EMEA deadline was Dec 2nd, so I guess we're gonna have to wait for a bit before we hear back from them.

Got invited to interview today around 8. Could anyone that's interviewed for securities please give me some info on what to expect?
Has your application status changed online?
Yes. It went from "under review" to "selected to interview".
Anyone hear back from IBD yet?
I know someone who heard back from Tech about 4 hours ago. Did anyone who received an AP2 app confirmation today (like me) hear back about interviews?
I just got a phone call from an MD in TMT. They decided to skip the SA interview process and go ahead and give me a FT offer.
What kind of technicals did they ask you?
What kind of technicals did they ask you?
Does anyone have news on London?
My app is still under review for IBD in NYC
has anyone heard back from IMD?
I applied to IMD and my status still says "under review."
I'm starting to worry it has already been released...
well Securities and Tech def have, just don't know about others
S&T is also out
Do those who did not hear back from S&T, tech, and securities still have statuses of "under review"?
I applied for IBD AP2 and am still under review, I wish the would just tell us sheesh
lalala and orange: Securities and S&T are the same thing at GS
my status changed back to "application received". i guess it is a bad sign
What division did you apply to?
sec. in fact, i did not apply for the accelerated process. but they still added me in
Just noticed I somehow managed to spell "advice" as "advise" on my resume... probably not getting an interview.
Play it off like you're British.
Anyone hear back from IBD?
Think they sent out interview invitation on the 5th for interview on the 13th,
Anyone's in IBD say application received?
Mine says 'Application Under Review'
Did you get the email confirming that you're AP2 in the morning yesterday?
Mine is still "application under review" (IBD NY)
mine is also under review; yes I did get the email.
wtf, this is almost like waiting for EA college admission decisions :P
Any chance the change to application received means moving from the accelerated process to the normal process?
And yes this is very reminiscent of college decisions.
I don't think so. My friend got the AP2 confirmation email yesterday and 'under review', and got an interview with Tech later in the evening. (he applied AP1 but got deferred). Looks like only securities and tech are out though, haven't heard from anyone who has heard back from IBD.
Wait, did they just call him and interview him on the spot?
No, they emailed him notifying him of a superday interview on the 13th (which was earlier the general consensus on expected superday date for AP2).
Woah so there was no first round?
I think someone mentioned this already, its sort of like Morning-Call-Afternoon-Decision. Its described very well earlier in the thread
I see, sorry I didn't understand that was referring to the process in general. I thought it was about one superday; I heard sometimes there are two.
I'm not really sure myself, just want to know about my AP2 IBD decision... :S
I head back from GS on tuesday, did not get IBD but received an interview for IMD for next monday on campus which I indicated GSAM NY as my preference. I go to a non-target btw
TH101, did GS directly tell you you didn't get IBD, or did they only give you an interview for IMD from which you inferred you didn't get IBD? I haven't heard back for IBD yet, was wondering if GS ever sends rejection letters, or just lets you wait till you realize it yourself as everyone's interview offers come in :S
I had first rounds for groups in the finance division this week, but haven't heard anything about superday yet. I know that it is scheduled on the 13th because it said so in the e-mail. anyone for this division hear back? Just noticed my application says "interview scheduled" - hoping that's a good sign.
How have they still not made any decisions for AP2 IBD???
Doesn't look like it man
Or are we deferred?
That's certainly possible, although no one's reported denials yet either (from exclusively IBD), so it's unlikely that anyone's heard.
Haha man this does feel a lot like EA college apps.
